Title: Change in interests?
Post by: SashaHyde on February 18, 2018, 08:22:53 PM
Have many of you experienced this?
What I'm talking about is hobbies or past-times. I'll use movies as an example.
I love watching movies. I've been mostly a sci-fi nerd but will hrt change my perspective to liking rom coms and the like. I've tried to watch a few recently and they aren't that interesting to me. To be fair, the show GIRLS is slightly better than I expected but not really gripping.
Have any of you experienced a shift in interests? I know I've read that some of you still do things that your old self did that are typically considered male. ie work on cars
So for  those that that still do that kind of thing, did your interest in more feminine things increase alongside this interests or did the interest diminish in favour of more feminine interests? I'm finding it already occur to a small degree and I'm not on hrt yet. Does in increase even more?

Just interested in everyones personal experiences. I'm sure they vary but I would like to hear them.
Thank you

My interest in competition within my hobbies essentially evaporated.  Suddenly I was enjoying the things I do for the sheer enjoyment of doing them.  Some hobbies went away, I started some new ones and life kept going.  I still like some action in movies, but Heather and I also really enjoy watching emotional cinema a lot too.

Will your interests change?  Likely they will, but that is part of the excitement of transition...seeing what comes next!

Lol, not to dismiss your concerns but, you are borrowing trouble sweetie. 😊
I have been here for a while through name changes and taking breaks, you learn some things in that time.
One thing that I know without a doubt is that the changes are absolute. Whatever we become is us, period. If you no longer like the same movies-

You will not care. You will never be sitting around thinking, I wish I could like, I don't know whatever, again. You just don't. That fear doesn't live past the change. I have seen the fear die so many times. What if I don't want sex as much? So what?! You won't care.

If we desire change and change happens, why be surprised? For the most part though, no lie, you will never know. It just happens.

We all change in our tastes, with or without transition, it is the outcome of living.

So to answer. You may change, but I would not worry about it.

I'm not overly stressed about it just curious. I'm seeing a shift already and was just not sure if it was my imagination. I'm open to enjoying the whole  experience and excited! Even as far as sexuality. I basically am bi but NOT attracted to men as a man. But who knows what the future holds, lol ;)

Became interested in wildlife/nature art & history, historic houses & museums. Listened to and enjoy a  broad range of music now. I still like bikes, muscle cars punk rock & metal. Oddly enough got my tattoos done as a woman at 59 & 60 never got round to it as a guy despite many years on the biker/punk/metal scene

about a month and a half after starting t i was suddenly obsessed with reptiles. i've always loved animals, i grew up on a farm, my father raised saltwater fish, my brother had a bearded dragon and a snake when he was ~12 years old, but i just found them a bit creepy and never became very interested. i stuck to horses, mostly, but also loved a few dogs and cats throughout childhood and am still stuck with the cockatoo i bought as a teenager. but two months after i started t my interests in animals shifted dramatically, and i just NEEDED a lizard. now i have two chameleons, thanks testosterone.

I am a living stereo lol. I lived as a guy, worked on cars, liked sci-fi, didn't freak with getting dirty, hated shopping. Now, oh boy, I like sappy movies, don't want to get dirty, avoid creepy crawlies, love to shop for clothes.  I am freaking about all the changes. Nah, I love every bit of it.

The only hobby-ish thing that's changed is probably taking care of houseplants. I've always liked them but didn't tend to keep many - too much work. However, over the past few months I've developed a HUGE amount of enjoyment in taking care of them. I'm now one of the designated "plant people" in my workplace with several that co-workers have turned over to my care. Orchids are becoming a new interest, too - I've gone from one at home to six; also three more on coworkers' desks that I now care for.

My hobbies and interests were mostly related to putting out a masculine front. As soon as I started to be honest with myself they slowly but surly fell to the wayside as they really didn't make me happy. Sure I found new hobbies, but I think it was more of the confidence and that it was okay for me to be into that.

The only interest that stuck was music, it seems to be one of my only genuine interests granted I had to change the instrument. Snowboarding,Paintball,Cars, and video games fell to the side as things like Shopping, Makeup and just being social took their place. sure they shifted but to be fair I don't consider the motivation to be genuine for what I was into before.

It's so interesting how we all look at things, how I see things is always so different from others and its fun to hear about it.
