Title: Can gender dysphoria make you sick?
Post by: Elykmoss on February 18, 2018, 07:52:11 PM
I believe that I have been trangendered since 2011. The issue is that I never knew what it was, or what it meant to be trangendered. Honestly I thought I was gay.

I never told anyone out of fear, and have suppressed my feelings until now. Recently, these feelings came back to me after having suppressed them, and they came crashing like waves.

It happened about 5 days ago, and since then I have started to feel worse and worse.

I have slept a total of about one and a half hours in the past 3 days. I have no appetite, diarrhea, headaches, and nausea.

I am a healthy 21 year old. I'm not on any prescription medications, or hard drugs like heroine, eto.

Is this stress or is it gender dysphoria? Stress caused by gender dysphoria?

I'm already taking steps to get help, but the earliest appointment I could make was March 5th :(
Is there anything I could to in the meantime. At least to get rest?

Hi Elykmoss!  Welcome to Susan's Place!  I'm Jessica.  In the beginning for me I was fearful of what could happen with my life.  It was stressful and I definitely think that type of stress can make you feel ill.  Hopefully you will get some help at your upcoming doctors appointment.
I see your new here, so I'll post some links that may help you get better acquainted with the site.

Welcome to Susan's Place. Gender Dysphoria can cause stress and stress can cause many problems. You can feel you have problems breathing, you can feel like your having a heart attack as well the symptoms that you are experiencing. Until your able to see a doctor, the best solution is distraction. Read a book, play a game, watch a show or listen to music. Anything that keeps your mind busy will help reduce your stress level. This is a short term solution so don't cancel your doctors appointment.

Really seems like it's stress acting out. The cause of the stress can definitely be gender dysphoria and/or a combination of factors.
I think its great your already looking into some help that soon, people can walk a long time with stress issues without realizing it. As for stress-related issues, don't expect that seeing a therapist or doctor will help straight away. Depending on the cause it can take a couple of months or maybe first get worse before getting better.

And like Dana said distraction works great for the time being, just be sure that you have look for distractions you really enjoy, otherwise they won't give you any stress release.

I'm on the stress wagon here. I have anxiety about eating foods that I don't know what is it them, because I have a lot of food allergies.. So if I eat something questionable.. I freak out. My throat will turn all red and my face will get puffy and I'll have trouble breathing. It's crazy. But yes, stress can do all sorts of evil to your body, so be careful with it and learn to manage it asap.
