Ive been struggling to find a bra size that fits my frame.
I am 37.-38" under bust and 41" over bust.
My fave so far is a 38b full cover underwire i got from costco.
My problem is it rides up when i sleep and shifts around sometimes while i move around.
I checked lasenza size chart for referance and it says im a 38D which i find extremely odd. Ive ordered a 36b to see if a snugger fit will stay put as my 38 is as tight as it goes which ive read is usually only for when they stretch out not intended for a new bra which it is.
Im kind of wondering if its due to my upper torso getting larger as it goes up giving me a false measurement on my cup size / over bust.

The unfortunate fact is that there are no real industry standards for bra sizing-- or women's clothing sizes, for that matter. Manufacturers deliberately vary their sizes in an effort to retain customers (don't ask for the logic in that). The only real way to try a couple on and buy one of that brand. In another brand or style a different size number may fit you better.

I would venture that you are actually a C cup. 1" difference in chest to bust size gives the cup size.
If it's riding up, possibly the shoulder straps are too tight or the band itself is too loose. I find that sometimes I had to go to a smaller band size for a better fit.
Manufacturer's vary sizes of women's clothes as a vanity thing. A size 10 dress with one might be a size 12 with another. Every woman wants to be a size 10. (lol) That's why it's a PITA to order things online or not trying them on for fit.
Unless you go for a fitting, it's trial and error I'm afraid and that can be expensive as well as uncomfortable!
Good luck but once you find something that fits well, stay with the manufacturer as they should be consistent on sizes.

I would suggest going to an upper end lingerie boutique and see if they would fit you in the right size and type bra. A very high percentage of women, not just trans women, wear the wrong bra size. Many people do not understand that when your weight changes your bra size will probably change as well. Immediately after I had my breast augmentation 14 years ago I went to a very nice boutique where I was fitted. I have continued to buy my bras from that boutique since then. When you start wearing a bra everyday, be it before or after breast augmentation, I would spend the extra money and get a couple of bras that are fitted for you and that are comfortable and easy to wear for long periods each day. You will find out very quickly that the band is perhaps the most important part of the bra as, if fitted properly, you will not have it riding up on your back. If for no other reason, you also want the right size and type bra because your clothes will look much better on you. Other women notice things like that! Clare is correct when she says that you want to stay with one bra maker as you will find their sizing consistent regardless of the type bra you are trying to find. Although they cost a lot more, I only wear Prima Donna bras as I know that what I am getting is going to fit, be comfortable and, if I hand wash them, last a very long time!

It even has a section on how trans women should calculate their size. Good luck, hope that helps!
No sizing calculator has ever worked for me. The difference between my rib cage and bust is 6 inches which the calculator says is a DDD cup. There is no way possible, other than stuffing it full of socks, that I fill a DDD cup. At best, it's approaching B.
I think a lot of this is due to the size of one's latissimus dorsi muscle. Maybe mine are still more developed than average. HRT may be making them smaller but it's taking a long time.

I agree that sizing can be very frustrating. I am 38 under and 41 around. I used a variety of charts and got a size, went into try on and found that I could not fill the cups. I did go into VS and tried on a 38B this fit but was too low on the sides. I am still growing and am hoping that by spring, when I get back from the sun, I will be able to go to the 'high end store' that my partner uses and have them size and fit me.
Intersting it tells transwomen to measure under bust while standing then lay on back to measure overbust without letting tape to droop between nipples.
Yet to measure but i imagine id be a 36a laying flat on my back, ive tried half a dozen 38's and the bands are always too loose with me ending up using the tightest clasp and still loose.
The round up rule doesnt really apply to me for band size, i measure 37" give or take. 36 so far fits the best.
As depressing is it is ill try a 36a next time and see how it fits.

I use a bra fitting guide on a site called "Her Room". The guide starts with the measurement and the looks at breast shape, distance between the breast and the goal of a specific bra (general support, low cut, pushup, maximizer, minimizer, sports, sleep etc.) and then recommends a size and a manufacturer. Its a good education and I took the size/manufacturer information and went to a store that sold them and tried them on for final fit. It worked for me.

Macy's was where I was first fitted. I found a sales rep who was very open to help me. Have two of my favorite bras from there now.
I definitely recommend the fitting. Victoria's Secret is ok, but their stuff tends to run small in the store.
Soma is a good one to go to if you can find one near you. I just got a Fr close with wide back that is very comfortable. I'm 5'6" and no small chicken, and vary between a 38C or D depending on which of my forms I'm wearing.

Bras have given me fits! Being professionally fitted and wearing them for decades does not help with the capricious nature of the intimate apparel industry. There is no standard i have found to be reliable and my oldest bra remains my tattered favorite.
I recently found some bralettes that are all I need. And then I do like to go shopping, so not a real problem at all ;D ;D

The best way that I size my bra's is to go and try them on in the changing room. The make and style of them can make a hug difference also. I seam to fit mostly in 36C but in other makes it could be 38C or evan 36D who knows till you try them on. Comfort is Key! that is what I go for.
