I see posts on several forums of people talking about how amazing their Xbox 1 is, or their PS4. But who among you is like me? Mostly I stick to cartridge systems. To be specific, NES, SNES, N64. I'm not going to say I don't play other stuff. I play PS1, and a little bit of PS3. I love the old school graphics. The blocky, sketchy, stuff that can lag behind time like crazy. I mean remember the original Legend of Zelda? Who is going to say that Twilight Princess, while a great game, completely blows the original out of the water. I would imagine that there wouldn't be a whole lot. And Mario 3? That one inspired movies and tournaments. I haven't seen much of any kind of tournaments, with the exception of the occasional Halo tournament. Or online stuff in general. Plus theres games like Q-Bert, Contra, The first Ninja Turtles, Astynax, Legacy of the Wizard, Wizards and Warriors, and so many more masterpieces.
Then there's SNES. Blackthorne, Legen of the Mystical Ninja, Donkey Kong Country, Earthworm Jim, and the beginning of Mariokart. The graphics were a little better and more detailed, but just relic enough to keep the player begging for more. I can't get enough of it.
Now N64. 360" view, full VR, and games with a total different feel. I mean who doesn't remember Mario64, The Legend of Zelda (both Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask), Banjo Kazooie, Hexen, and for the more mature audience, South Park and Conker. Can you honestly say these games weren't mind blowers?
With the PS games, I play Castlevania Symphony of the Night, and Final Fantasy 8. That pretty much does it for me on PS1. The PS3 games I play continue on with Castlevania, and I'm a huge God of War nut. I also have Dishonored, Thief, Elder Scrolls V, Dante's Inferno, and a few others. But usually I stick to my cartridge systems.
I'm a classic gamer. Who else is, and can you recommend a game that you think people would love?
My mouth is watering now, and I think if I don't get on my Nintendo soon, I'm going to start going thru withdraws. :-P
This girl over here grew up on N64 and Super Nintendo!! I even had a Sega Genisis for like a year or so ^.^
I was there at the beginning of gaming. We heard there was development work going on with W.H.E.E.L. and a week later we had our answer: The ball. :laugh:

Have an old nes console at home. Tried it out of curiosity, games are just extremely difficult. Lol
Oh, I love me some Zelda: Link to the Past on the SNES. FF8 also rocks. First RPG I played growing up and loved it.
I have the more recent game controllers with games in them floating around somewhere. My Atari 2600 died and still sold on ebay for parts for almost $300. For burned out electronics, WTH??? The bidding started at $10 plus shipping.
Anyway the Plug and Play games are just what you're looking for. Lot of old games on something that takes up the space of a controller, or a few. River Raid was incredibly hard going back to it. I used to be able to make it to level 40 or so, now I can't get past level 10. Still can't seem to find the controller with Spy Hunter on it :'( .
I have spy hunter. Not the easiest game in the world but a blast to play. What I would love to find would be an Atari 2600, and a Kalicovision. I used to have the K when I was a little kid. But when I got a Nintendo, the K disappeared. Those K's are near impossible to find, unfortunately. I had 3 games, but can only remember 2. Donkey Kong, and Ladybug. Ladybug was just a spin off of PAC-Man. Same game, different name basically. But to clarify, instead of a little yellow mouth eating pebbles, you were, surprise surprise, a ladybug. Betcha didn't see that one coming, did ya? ;)
I play lots of vintage games I have a decent collection of games I still have every system i owned except my atari 2600 that disappeared some time after getting my nes. Legend of zelda is one of my favorite games of all time and super mario bros 3 my sister and I were really excited when that one came out.
I remember the video stores around here rented out video games as well as movies, and Mario 3 had over a 6 month waiting list to rent it.
I had over 250 Atari/Amiga games... I still have access to most of them or have on emulators. Played a lot of Arkanoid, Switchblade, Populous, Syndicate, F15 Strike Eagle, Lotus Esprit Turbo etc. My uncles were both working in the games industry in the early 80s and I had access to pretty much everything worth playing on the market at the time as a kid through them.
I never owned Nintendo consoles back in the day until I got a GC around 2006 to Play Twin Snakes. So I missed out the experience of GoldenEye and all the N64 'classics' when they were groundbreaking... did have a lot of MegaDrive titles though. Owned a PS1/PS2 and still have over 100 games bought for those. Big on the PS1 classics, especially Resident Evil series, Dino Crisis, Parasite Eve, Wipeout, FF, etc. Got a pretty extensive collection of pre-PS3 games, but I do own PS3 and XBox 360.
I haven't had much urge to get next gen at this point. Probably will but considering there's 4 consoles already under my TV that would mean getting a new cabinet.
It's been interesting to see gaming evolve from the simplest of simple sprites and word based adventure games/number based combat games to the current tech. But the older games where you had to use your imagination for some reason have usually had a greater impact for me. Nostalgia maybe. I remember being wowed by the PS1 demos and the N64 graphics far more than I'm impressed by the latest stuff coming out.
Metal Gear Solid 1 remains my all time favorite title, which is now almost 20 years old.
I remember the first time I saw an N64 commercial. I was totally blown away by the graphics. I couldn't speak for the first few seconds. I had my NES and SNES, but the graphics on N64 made the first 2 systems look like drawings on paper. The same thing happened with SNES when it came out. Mind blowing compared to NES.
The PS1 graphics, on certain games, are insane. Clear as a photograph. I had a PS2, but wasn't a fan. I have a few new systems in my house, as well as older ones. Me and my wife have our own tastes.

Personally I have never been a fan of Xbox in any edition. I hate the handling, the controller shape, the graphics, the games, everything. I tried playing Halo on the original Xbox. That was when I found out that I hate Halo.
With a few exceptions on the PS3, I don't play anything newer than my N64.
One thing about my wife that drives me nuts: She is obsessed with Lego video games. Lego Harry Potter, Lego Batman, Lego Jurassic Park, just Lego Lego Lego. AAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!

Becoming an artist has made me look a lot more at gaming like film history. So i kind of jump around a lot now. But the classics are the foundation on which all games are built... so everyone should try them at some point [emoji14]

Love the classics, I have an emulator setup now with all the great N64 and Sega games on it. I can get stuck on Galaga for hours...
