Title: Self Advocacy
Post by: Yeti on February 25, 2018, 04:11:06 AM
For my life I was just me.  Regular old me...until I got sick and wound up disabled.  "We tried that Doctor, this is what happened." I found myself saying sometimes.  In the process my Doctor and I learned how much we can learn from each other.  Heck we even compare research notes sometimes.  I don't have Transcare anywhere close to me.  My Doctor is also in the dark or was I can say now.  We decided to send me to a breast surgeon she knew was lgbt friendly at least.  That got the ball rolling for me.  She ended up not being able to do the surgery due to being a breast cancer specialist and my insurance denying payment I needed a different kind of surgeon, a Plastic Surgeon and they would pay.  Well I have an appointment with him soon.  In the meantime I made cold calls with the phone book.  "Has the Doctor ever worked with Transgender patients or is willing to?"  I found two Endochronologists that way.  The first one gave me the diagnosis I needed in writing and my prescription for T.  Well her office said alot about how she runs her practice whichled me to another Endochronologist i like and has a friendlier staff who is knowlegeable.  Thats important to me.  The Breast Surgeon who couldn't do my surgery led me to a Therapis who is really great.  I already have my top surgery letter and we get along great.  Advocating for yourself rather than sitting around thinking this will never happen or no one cares is definately the way to go. Yes it takes time but then would you rather spend time finding someone who knows their stuff or someone who says I've worked with transgendered before.  What is your definition of Transgendered?  Oh well that's genital mutilatation and I'll talk to your psychiatrist for you. Yeah that therapist went out the freakin door quick! Stand up for yourself and take an active roll in your care.  Stay informed just don't trust.  Sometimes the needs of the one do outweigh the needs if the naby

Look Hon, "there are no free lunches". Why depend on everyone else in society that will pay for the same condition that I have?. If you want it bad enough then you will find a way. Start your own business like I did. Find a Niche that is so specialized that no one would want to other than for a tax break like in the US and Warren Buffet with BNSF. I chose Trucking. There was no dress codes, codes against the length of your hair or whatever else. Just get from point A to point B and sometimes point C, D, E, F and so on safely with what is on your back intact. Now I own a business that if a "product" gets from point "A" to point "B" safely and intact then I get paid nad my drivers get paid even before I get paid.

Business is business and like the "oldest profession" in the world you better be willing to kiss some ass. Maybe "something else" too. But in business you either have to suck, take it in and willing or ready to kiss whatever to stay in business. Then you don't need medical care aid for by someone else. You will be able to afford it on our own.

*Warning to the mods*. I am going to say something that may not be acceptable so remove it if need be.

But are you are disabled then you entitled more or less. I can't drive anymore because of my back but I still do. Screw them.

Look, the endo that don't know then leave them. I ask nothing from the government but expect them to protect me from enemies foreign and domestic. I took the vow and did my duty for four years. those four years I had to hide who the hell I was really. I paid my dues. Still haven't gotten anything back for them though. Even through Desert Storm and Somalia. I ask nothing from the government. Hell I don't want anything from the government. I paid wholly for my PHD even though it took a while.  I am the CEO of my business and have no college education in business. I just know how to talks a lot of >-bleeped-<, some flirtatious and some not so much. Who really need a college education to go into business or even sales? It is all shooting the >-bleeped-< and if people like you then they will used your business or not.

You want to hear something funny and totally ridiculous Yeti?? I have a nephew that gave up Marine Biology for Business as a major. The Biology part was too much for him. Learn!!!! If there is something you don't know then learn it. Study it. But his first job was a grocery store and when he is my age then he may be CEO but I seriously doubt it But the whole course of biology was too hard for him. in another year he may be on a research boat in Alaska studying the migration paths of whales or suggesting how many crabs and fish could be taken during a season. Yet he likes groceries and god bless him but it shows. Personally I would do the extra studying to go to the Bearing Sea or wherever else. "Please God, take this Girl away. Let her see different lands. Experience different cultures and so on." yes he is gay but he sleeps with his phone. Maybe the Smart Phone is the problem with the world today. I own an AR15 and a lot of other guns too. Some are antique and some modern and I never once thought of killing someone unless they wanted to kill me.

The left thinks they own us because I am trans. Nope. No one owns me. The right may think they own me because I love shooting and was in the Army and so on. Nope. If Pres. Trump signs into law a bill to prohibits 18 year olds to purchase at least a rifle then I will vote for his right side competition. I was a sissy and such a >-bleeped-<ing girl at 18 but still had to sign up for Selective Service. Do you think being a trans girl would have had an effect? LOL Hell no it may have kept me out but I ended up signing up for four years of the Army on my own. So now if Pres. Trump thinks that 21 is a legal age to buy a rifle then he needs to change the age to signing up for Selective Service to 21 years of age too.

Male or female, LGBT or straight who the hell wants to die for their country when they do not have the freedom o buy and drink a beer in a bar? WTF Person wants to sign up willingly for Selective Service when they can't even buy a .22 rifle to squirrel with?

Maybe we should start limiting Smart phones. I own horses and if they break a leg then I can call a vet but a .30-30 will end then faster than a vet's shot ever would. I need a gun because of rattle snakes which can kill me or hurt my horse and make them suffer, I may need to kill the snake. Without a 9mm my horse or myself my suffer a snake bite.

I own shotguns, rifles, handguns and a few are even antiques. I am trans and where I live for my livestock I may need guns to defend them. Yes the Coyotes and the wolves have to eat and I  will actually provide for them and share. But... I would save a coyote from a snakebite if need be. But I want the meat. But hell the Coyote has to eat too so... I would probably let the Coyote eat. I have WM Supercenters to buy food from.

This is the People's way. Two Spirits and accepted. Some were even taken as wives by the elders and even warriors as wives. We have been here.

Unfortunately we have it bad now but our brothers have had it good and then bad. Joan of Arc is a really good example of their contribution to society. Even now they call him Joan I thin it would be more appropriate to call him at leas with a comma Jean of Arc too.

The only advocacy is that we need to be able to be proud of who we are. That is it, no political views or whatever else other defending those weaker but we should be proud of who we are and allowed to be proud.

What kind of advocacy are you talking about? Pushing a political agenda just because you may think one side cares about you and the other don't? LOL neither one cares about you or me or anyone other than your vote.

Obama signed and executive order for trans in the military. An EO is not a law. That should have went through the houses and then either vetoed by the president or signed into law. So what is pertained in that Executive order? HRT? SRS? Personally I think if you have served with honor and the military discharges you with an Honorable discharge then the government should pay. You deserve it.

Who the hell want to sign to die for their country when they can't even buy a gun to hunt with or buy a beer in a bar. Yet we are giving twelve year old Smart Phones.

Thanks for your service and it sucks that people (especially our government who gets constantly gets involved in wars) don't respect what people in the military have sacrificed, but I think the best solution to that would be to actually support veterans (and not with empty words and bumper stickers), not neglect everyone else in society as well.

I was bedridden for years unable to do anything.  Without my "entitlement" aka disability I would be dead.  "Start your own business like I did" is absurd advice to give a seriously disabled person.  To be fair I wouldn't expect disability to cover purely cosmetic surgeries and stuff like that either though.

I certainly agree about most politicians in either major party not truly caring about the general public too.  They only care that those people vote for them so they can stay in power and keep making money, and will say whatever they think achieves that.

Disability does not have to be permanent and from what I know it is hard to get permanent disability. It is reviewed and the doctor has to sign a form stating that you are still disabled. Anyhow, I am sure that many people use disability to recover then return to work.
