Title: For those of us Transitioning from Male to Female ; How many have small hands?

When I was a lot younger I played Indoor ball games, but I  had a lot of problems handling the Men's sized ball (Handballs, Volleyballs etc!) because I had very small hands for a man. How many of us have had the same issues with tiny hands  for male.

Yep, small hands, small feet, and small, ah... everything.

I am taller than both my brothers, good bit taller than my younger brother, my hands look like little kids hands next to theirs. Feet too and, ah... everything.

My best friend's hands are as big as mine and she only comes up to my chin. She hadn't made fun of my hands in a while until almost a year ago. She had a surgery where she could go home the same day but couldn't drive home so I took the day off to offer support and drive her home. She was unsteady leaving so I held her hand till we got to the car. She laughed the whole way about my tiny hands. ☹️ Maybe I need better friends, do you think? 🙂

I didn't understand what I was supposed to be measuring for the side-to-apex-to wrist measurement.

My wrist to longest finger measurement was 200 cm.  I think my hands are medium-to-large for female range, smallish for male range.

I'm 6 ft tall, and I have long bones and small joints (my current wrist measurement is 6 1/2 inches), and my hand size is medium, but I have longish skinny fingers (my index finger is just a wee bit longer than my ring finger).

I'm 6' tall too less 5"!

My wrists have always been kinda small in that I can wrap one hand around the wrist and have a quarter to 3/8" left over.

YES, I have small hands and feet to go along with my 5' 4" height...  5'5" if I puff up my hair.
Fortunately, as my old male self before transitioning I was a small guy with a slight build and a not very masculine face... it was a problem as a young man but now that I have transitioned to full time, the small hands, small feet, short stature, and my face... all works in my favor.

Sorry, in the absence of a tape measure I wasn't sure what the measurement of my wrists are but using a small 6 1/2" envelope have figured they're 7".

What I tried to use to reflect my wrist was:  If I took my middle finger of either hand and wrapped it around my wrist connecting it to my thumb, there'd be about a quarter of an inch extra or overlap - make sense?
I use to be 5' 10" but gravity attacked me.

Every cis woman I've met as tall or taller than me (I've only met 6), have had larger feet than me. I'm a US Women's 13 / men's 11/11½.

As a pharmacist, everything I do at work is metric

When I worked retail I used to tell people that I sold drugs for a living.  Only thing I miss about it. Kinda miss giving flu shots too.

Medicine uses metric.  When everyone posts their E and T levels etc here they all all measured in metric units.

One of the several "Trans Ironies" I live with are the big hands. Not meaty muscular hands, far from it. Hands more like they got put through a clothes wringer, long, fat, and flat. Forget any slip on bracelets. Then add in big feet with a big arch and extra bones, balding since 14, and more.

I'm a mess  :o

Im glad I have small hands and feet but when I was younger my size caused some dysphoria because some family members constantly pointed out how much smaller I was than my brother. A few times my uncle commented on how small my hands and feet were and told my dad to take me to a Dr and get growth hormones before it was too late and I was stuck being a " scrawny runt".  And once when I was 16 my mom grabbed my hand and put it up to hers and she said " you're 16 and you have smaller hands than me. That's just sad! You have messed up genetics anyway so I think the fact you're so small is part of that."  The sad thing is that being small helped with my transition but at the time it made me feel like even more of a freak so I hated it.

Measuring from the first crease of the wrist to the very tip of my middle finger I got 195 mm.

I guess the line between my hand and wrist probably means that same crease, and its apex to the thumb side endpoint were the hand were to be cut off along that line. However, I couldn't figure out which point along which side of the hand to use as the other endpoint, so I finally decided to use the spot at the knuckle of the pinky because it's the farthest away.

That gave me "less than 95 mm," which seems a bit weird...

Hi Zirconia;
If you look at the question of the poll. The measurement of the length of the hand is from the wrist crease to the end of your longest finger. In my case thats my  second finger from  the thumb side.

I think there's a misunderstanding here.  First, each hand has only four fingers as the Thumb isn't called a Finger at least here in the US.  However, the expression here has been that if someone gives you "The Finger", it's the one that has two digits on each side of it.  For the sake of argument we hopefully can agree to each hand formed has five digits (4 fingers and 1 thumb).

Also, the end finger or smallest one, in most cases, is called "The Pinky" for whatever reason.  Hence the middle finger would be the second finger from the Thumb, or the 3rd finger from the Pinky :)

Hi Cassie;
OK using your definition. Looking at my right hand. My longest finger is the third finger (ie the second after my little finger , what you call your pinky.

Which we, in the US, call the middle finger.  But blame it on the Greeks!

In Western culture, the finger or the middle finger (as in giving someone the (middle) finger or the bird[1] or flipping someone off)[1] is an obscene hand gesture. The gesture communicates moderate to extreme contempt, and is roughly equivalent in meaning to ">-bleeped-< off," ">-bleeped-< you," "shove it up your ass," "up yours," or "go >-bleeped-< yourself." It is performed by showing the back of a hand that has only the middle finger extended upwards, though in some locales, the thumb is extended. Extending the finger is considered a symbol of contempt in several cultures, especially in the West. Many cultures use similar gestures to display their disrespect, although others use it to express pointing without intentional disrespect toward other cultures. The gesture is usually used to express contempt but can also be used humorously or playfully.

The gesture dates back to Ancient Greece and it was also used in Ancient Rome. Historically, it represented the phallus. In some modern cultures, it has gained increasing recognition as a sign of disrespect, and has been used by music artists (notably more common among hardcore punk bands and rappers), actors, celebrities, athletes, and politicians. Most still view the gesture as obscene. The index finger and ring finger besides the middle finger in more contemporary periods has been likened to represent the testicles.[2]

From a common sense approach, if everyone agrees that the "Thumb" is a digit but not a finger, than normally everyone would have four fingers, which would make it impossible to have a middle finger.

And while the information that I pasted regarding the "Middle Finger" was for the most part rather vulgar, when used in normal american english, the digits are identified as:

Thumb
Forefinger
Middlefinger
Ring Finder
Pinky Finger

I have small hands. They're actually my favorite part of my body. Whenever I would shake a man's hand, it would be so much smaller than theirs and their grip would feel quite strong on me. I thought I just wasn't as strong but it's because my hands are so much smaller than most men.

I have small feet and hands myself, and I'm 5'8" ..perfectly happy with dimensions. The thing is... I feel like this kind of thread has the potential to make some people feel very dysphoric and inadequate if they have 'typically male' proportions (like very big hands) etc.

So I have to say I don't think it's a very sensitive thing to be polling about, but that's just my opinion.

I agree, this type of topic is like saying look at me I'm better because of this this and this, and that is why I posted smarmy comments, or went off topic a bit, but did not answer the question directly. The OP has some other gems posted such as how small is your adams apple, and how small are your feet?  And my respective answers are; one bad apple doesn't spoil the rest, since the Doc shaved it off at my request! And my feet match my height at size 11, but their width is small for my being 6 ft tall (Paris Hilton wears an 11, and so do a lot of other women!).

I'm one of the folks with diethyl stilbesterol (DES) exposure in utero, starting around 10 weeks in.  (Mom was prescribed the 1952 version of prenatal vitamins with a huge load of this stuff to 'prevent miscarriage' after a series of miscarriages.)

DES is a potent synthetic estrogen, and I was exposed to levels far higher than in a modern birth control pill.  It had a potent feminizing effect, from undescended testicles, almost no body hair, to feminine skeletal structure in the extremities.

I'm 5'7" now, wear a women's medium glove and US 9 1/2 to 10 women's shoes.

We, each of us, are what we are, all individuals.  Physical measurements don't make any one of us better than another, simply different.  We each have to cope with our transgender natures in the way best for each of us, individually, and find our own path through life.  Different physicalities pose different challenges.

I have relatively big hands for a woman, my have quite large thick fingers. I am very conscious over my hands. I shave my arms and hands and I wear a lot of nail polish to make my hands look more feminine. I also grew my nails to give my hands a girly look.

My feet are also on the larger size for a woman and I have stubby toes.. again I wear a lot of nail polish to make them look more feminine, also I wear a lot of high heels as the heels make you feet look smaller due to angle you feet sit in the shoe. I am lucky my feet are not too big, as I still can get shoes from most shoe shops.

So as you can understand, I have a large selection of nail polish, many colors...

When I compare hands and feet size with women I work with I see a big variation in their sizes.

There are a fair percentage that are incredibly petite/ undeniably feminine. Also  a fair percentage that are tall with largish hands and feet.

This gives me hope. I am tall for a woman (6') but there are many girls about this tall where I live. At work I often wear latex gloves that the female nurses use so my hands are small for a guy.

When I am working with women I notice my hands are sometimes smaller than theirs ! My hands are not thickset either. When I work alongside men my hands appear small. I have been told many times I have small hands and I love it, even though I dont reveal I love it !

My hands are fairly small just under the mean size of female hands. I have always had a very feminine build even before hrt. It made school very difficult but it has made life after transitioning so much easier and I am so grateful.

I always considered myself to be of large hands and feet ... until .. I looked around and talked to a few people. Most gals I know have proportionately larger feet. At 5'10" my feet actually run into the average zone.

As for my hands, and as per the actual topic, I worried until I mentioned it to a cis-gal-friend. She pointed me to several other gals whose hands were more manly than mine. Do my hands bother me, yes. Do I wish they were slimmer, yes. Do I fret? Nope, not any more. There is a plenitude of other things that my dysphoric brain gets worked up about.

My wife's hands are smaller and slimmer and downright ugly HAH!  .. ahem .. don't tell her that I said that.

edit
I thought I would stick a photo in here for comparison. I am 5'10" (as stated above, I know). My wrist is 2&5/8" wide (2.625" or 6.6675 cm)

I dislike my wide palms, it's built-up muscle from different jobs that all required hand work. Maybe it'll shrink ... when I'm 90 :P
