Title: Upstate NY doctor to provide hrt?!?! TRICARE insurance info?
Post by: gabethepokemon on September 12, 2013, 03:28:44 PM
Hello everyone!  :)

I live in Upstate NY and need to find a doctor who is willing to provide me with testosterone for HRT. I am (presumably) getting my letter pretty soon from my therapist and thought I should start my search early for a provider. I do not have a primary care physician because the last doctor I went to was my pediatrician and now I am too old to go there.

I would like to find a doctor around where I am from; Potsdam, NY. Anything north of Syracuse will be very much help! Or even extremely west Vermont.

I have TRICARE insurance, so if you have TRICARE please also share your insurance related experience or any suggestions you may have with regaurds to that.

Seriously, any information will help. Also include prices if you can, such as cost of doctor visits, bloodwork, ect.

ALSO, what tests are generally required before I can start hrt?

I am enrolled in the VA system, which is pretty much tricare retirement. The VA covers HRT and medically associated stuff like therapy.  I am not sure what form of tricare you have, are you on prime, reserve select? Actove duty? Do NOT seek HRT active duty youll catch a discharge.....I have yet to go to the VA but i got my letters saying i have care, so i need to go down to the VA myself....being already on HRT i wonder how the BA would or will approach it for coverage. Ill be watching this thread closely, keep us updated!

Hi, thanks for responding. I have TRICARE because my dad was in the army, but now he is retired. As his dependent, I am still entitled to it but wanted to know what tricare will pay for in this situation.

I am guessing it is tricare retirement? If he recently retired, then itll be prime for i think 2-3 years, before it switches to tricare retirement.....not 100% positive on that. Call tricare and give them a shout, their number is: 1-877-TRICARE. They should be able to direct you to north region, as well as give u the info on type of tricare you have. I am not sure how long coverage lasts for dependants after retirement....i know spouses are 100% covered, not sure on children...either way just tell them u are a dependant, and let em know u have questions on coverage and want to speak with somone in your region. Good luck, tricare can be a headache on the phone, lol. But-they got my VA enrollment done for me after my honorable discharge, so they should be able to help. :)
