Title: How long 'til back on a motorcycle after SRS?
Post by: estropunk on September 24, 2015, 05:27:10 PM

Not sure if there'll be anyone who can answer this, but I'm wondering if there are any other post-op bikers on here who might remember how long it took after SRS before you felt comfortable on a motorcycle again? It's been about 3 months since my surgery and I've healed well enough for almost everything else I like to do - I'm fine with running, yoga, rock climbing, etc. But the position you get in to straddle the bike, no way around rubbing your new parts into this hard surface with your legs spread, it's way uncomfortable, and when you hit a bump in the road............ :'(

Just curious how long it took for anyone else to feel comfortable riding, because I sure do miss it right now :/

There was a similar thread, the answer was at leat four months...
and since its individual it would take a person like S pock to make a more accurate estimate  :)

I don't own a motorcycle, or even a bicycle.   4 months post-op, I found myself in a hotel with nothing to do.   There was a bicycle rental out front, so I gave it a try.  I had zero problem, found it exhilarating instead.   My ride lasted a little over an hour before the mosquitos chased me back inside.

Everyone heals at their own rate - I had a lot of post-op problems, and didn't think it would ever get better.   For me, 3 months was more or less the turning point, and everything was normal after that.

Good luck!

It took me about a year to get back on a bicycle (and I imagine a motorcycle would not be much easier, with the engine vibration), but part of that was New England winter. I was back on a stationary bicycle within 7-8 months, but had to wait a bit longer for the weather to be decent.

One thing that surprised me - sitting *directly* on one's genitals on the bike seat is a weird feeling. :)

Laura, just trust me, that's not how it works. :) I have a women's bike - I did before, too - and there's just no way to avoid full genital contact unless you ride off the seat entirely. I fussed around with several different kinds of seats, added extra padding, tried to find a good position... there are more and less comfortable seats, but ultimately, it's gonna happen.

Well for some its kind of a nice feeling.

There might be some old seats with springs included where it might be possible to avoid...
and they might be turned into a low position so the angle is of advantage too...

those with springs can be kind of funny... its possible to teeter a bit when going over an obstacle  :)

Estropunk,

What kind of bike do you ride?  If you're on a sport bike and going crazy to ride there are many after market seats made with gel that would work great on your lady bits.  The big cruisers are the same and make you sit back on your back side more too.  This may be a perfect time for a new bike! 😊

I remember my first bicycle ride as post op, and it was about at 4 months on the beach, it was fun to find your post Megan....

I do own a motorcycle and it was also about 4 months post op, that I put my helmet on and took a nice farm road ride. I have found it to be more comfortable today when I do ride, Meg your description "exhilarating" is quite apt indeed (uuuu).
