Title: UK Meetup 2019
Post by: emma-f on December 30, 2018, 09:58:57 AM
Hi everyone

Last year Megan organised an amazing night out in Birmingham (thank you once again Megan) and afterwards I promised that I would happily take over organising duties for the next one and its taken me ages but here we go:

UK Meetup 2: The Empire (line dress) Strikes Back

So, appalling pun out the way (it was the best sequel related name I could think of and my brain is not working this time of year), I was speaking to @pamelatransuk and she suggested perhaps 16th March 2019 and that date sounds good to me but I'm open to organising for other dates if that doesn't suit people.

I'm thinking Manchester for this meetup, primarily because I know it well enough to organise something, and the Village in Manchester is awesome - especially for first timers!

If people are interested at all, and I know this comes up on the forums a lot, but I was speaking to my electrolysist who said that if people are interested she could possibly come along to chat about laser hair removal, electrolysis, fillers, facial rejuvenation, botox etc and possibly come along with some special offers. She is part of a national chain and I cant guarantee anything, but if there's interest I could go to her bosses if see if they can put together a special deal for any attendees? Obviously I could only do this in Manchester.

Anyway, feel free to DM me or respond on here, but once I have an idea of numbers, feelings on dates and location etc I'll get to organising something

Much love

Thank you Emma for taking on board my suggestion of Sat16March by which time hopefully the worst of the weather should be over. I am not a fan of Winter but it is not the cold I object to; I hate the constant darkness. I am grateful the venue you suggest is in our part of the country, the NorthWest. Manchester is an excellent choice.

As I said previously I believe providing they continue to be successful and desired in future, they can hopefully take place in different regions bi-annually: Sept 2018, March 2019, Sept 2019 etc.

I confirm I am available Sat16March and I intend to travel and attend as Pamela.

Others may wish to know that I use the same chain and indeed the same branch as Emma and indeed the Laser and Electrolysis girls go out of their way to help you.

I look forward to meeting you all.

Hugs

All OK with me. Looking forward to it already. If date needs amending Im OK with that as before.
Any suggestions as to hotel, Meal venue, activities, meet up time etc etc. Clubs etc.
And I can only come as me now but will have to get a move on with sorting attire out, after all its only 11 weeks or so away...
Well done both of you

Hi Emma

Thanks for taking over the organisation.  The last one in Birmingham was really good fun so I'm looking forward to what you have in store for us (no pressure!!!)

If you need to move the date around, I should be OK for the week after too

Thank you to all you girls who have shown an interest in this event and wish to attend. I look forward to meeting you all on March 16th (or later if it has to be deferred).

I shall be travelling from Liverpool South Parkway to Manchester and will stay for lunch in a private room as Emma suggests. I expect to stay for the afternoon for some really good conversation in person which should be even better than the wonderful communication we have had in writing on Susans' and also for a few drinks. I expect to leave early evening for my train.

I assume some of you may make this an overnight stay and seek a hotel room for B&B and if so, I hope you find suitable accommodation which I'm sure you will as Manchester has many good hotels.

If a third UK Meet Up is desired and takes place in September in another region of the UK, I expect I may be seeking hotel to stay at then.

So far we have 7 of us: Emma, Davina, Katie, Charlotte, Pam, Soph and me but I'm sure several more will consider and hopefully attend.

Thanks to all of you and a special thank you to Emma for your time and work organizing this event for us.

Hugs to all

Hello Davina

I am so glad you can attend on Sat March 16th.

We have had the occasional post with each other and I know we are (like so many other UK girls) both under GenderGP.

I look forward to meeting you on that date.

Hello again Everyone

For the benefit of anyone who has not seen this thread before, we are having a UK Meet Up on Saturday March 16th in Manchester. My friend, Emma, is researching potential venues and making other enquiries as you may read in earlier posts.

There is still plenty of time to state your interest in this event.

Would anyone else like to attend this social gathering of Susans' Members please?

Thanking you and Hugs to all.

Wow! Only just seen this thread.  :o

I would love to attend, but I am having some SERIOUS problems with my wife at present and I can't see us making the year out, so it might cause an issue, BUT.

Can I say a tentative yes?  I'd love to come along.  ;D

Hi everyone;
It looks as though I am going to be in Devon during March, thru April, so if I can I am planning to come up for the 16th March event. Emma did tell me that you girls were planning an event  around this time  so I am hoping to best fit my travels around it. Do let me know as soon as possible which date is confirmed

Hello again Judith

Emma has confirmed (Jan 15th) that the Meet Up will indeed take place March 16th but she is researching venues in Manchester and possible extras (laser/electrolysis/beauty etc).

I suggested that these Meet Ups take place biannually - Sept 2018, March 2019, Sept 2019 etc if still desired.

I look forward to meeting you on March 16th.

Thank you Emma for everything. Will the lunch venue be within walking distance of the station or will I need a taxi please?

Perhaps some of us can meet at the station before lunch please and walk together or get taxi together?

This will be my first time as Pamela outside Liverpool but I am really looking forward to coming and meeting you all and chatting and sharing.

So far we have 9 including probables but still 4 weeks to go: Emma, Davina, Katie, Charlotte, Pam, Sophie, Vicky, Judith and me.

Perhaps we could meet there but only if that is OK with you of course? I am travelling from Liverpool South Parkway to either of Manchester stations.

Thank you Katie for confirming that the nearest station is in fact Manchester Victoria. Everyone will little or no knowledge of Manchester geography like me will wish to note that.

Therefore I will be travelling by train from Liverpool South Parkway to Manchester Victoria with one change which is fine.

Thank you Soph. Yes I shall meet you at Manchester Victoria. Katie is also considering coming by train and will decide in due course. I am guessing others may come by train and hence there could be a few of us to meet at that station at a time to be agreed nearer the date. See you in 24 days. It is a very significant day for both of us!

Ladies, you will be fine, hold your heads up high and be proud when going through Manchester, its a trans friendly city and well used to us.
If I come by train it will be to Piccadilly Station, so I may have to navigate the tram system which despite living and working around the city for quite a time when it was being installed and a while after, I have never used. So I will be looking for instructions on-line I think.
Emma, any news on the possibility of a table/room for the evening. and do /will we need to eat beforehand. Molly's food is great but I'm sure it will be very full.. (nice selection of Gin as well.. ahem...)
Anyway I will make the day do, still uncertain about the night.

Hello again Lucy

The first UK Meet Up was last September and the only reason I did not attend was that I was on holiday at the time. I can assure you that is completely acceptable to attend in male mode if you prefer as I would have done last September and as some members did.

My situation is that I have been just over a year HRT but have never been outside South Liverpool in girl mode but I am publicly transitioning when I move house (not too far away geographically) in the Summer.

So March 16th is the first time for me in the company of so many nice girls outside home as a girl myself!

Please feel free to come to lunch and then you have the choice (like so many of us) to stay later or to leave.

No pressure of course, but the offer to come is there.

Hugs

Thanks both - and thanks Emma for the PM, I can't respond yet I don't think as I've only just joined.

I'd love to come, although even in male mode I think I'd have a panic attack! I'll keep my eyes open for any others, it's a bit too early for me. I'm not even able to dress at the moment, let alone venture out.

Now where did I put that dress for the night time? Im into black and silver at the moment so lets see.... :icon_2gun: :icon_drunk: :icon_drunk:

Hello Pam and Others

Lunch is booked for 1.30 pm in Emma's name.

Originally I was intending to travel from Liverpool South Parkway but I wish to avoid Northern Rail and their Bus Replacement Services. Therefore I am traveling directly from Liverpool Lime St to Manchester Victoria and I am meeting Sophie there at 11.30 or a little later if my train late. Then Sophie and I ( it is first time out of our home town/city for us) are having a coffee before walking to the lunch venue in advance of 1.30.

Others are welcome to join Sophie and me if you wish by all means.

I am also not staying for any evening do but will stay for a few drinks and chat till late afternoon and probably get my return train at 6.24.

I am nervous but I know I will really enjoy this event both to give me confidence but also to meet and chat with so many nice ladies.

See you in 24 or 26 hours.

Hugs to all you

Pamela  xx

Hello again

As you know the high winds and rain in the NW caused flooding making me an hour late at Victoria  - sorry about that - but I still arrived safely at the restaurant in plenty of time.

Yesterday was a truly wonderful occasion which I shall greatly treasure both as a result of meeting so many nice ladies but also as it has instilled in me great confidence for the future. Furthermore the meal was excellent and we discussed so many subjects both trans and non trans related.

To Katie, Davina and Sophie who stayed overnight, I hope you enjoyed your breakfast and I wish you a safe journey home.

I wish to thank you Emma for arranging this event and for your kind words of encouragement. Thank you to all for your warm welcome.

We shall chat on Susans many times over the coming months and I look forward to seeing you in September/October.

Hugs to all

Pamela  xx

PS: Just to confirm that pursuant to yesterday, I feel "top of the world"

Me, on a train home (train was very full) feeling happy mellow and tired.

Needless to day Both Davina and I were dragged onto the dance floor by a hen party. they were lovely and all the other Katie's on the party had their photo with me, whatever for  don't know...

Was a bit noisy as these places are but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I think we should talk about one towards the south of the country next time, Sept or October - who is up for that?

I cant thank Emma enough for organising this (and didn't she and Davina, Pamela, Pamela and Sophie look gorgeous?) and I know it was difficult for a few girls to make it and that's completely understandable, but Kudos to Sophie and Pamela for whom this was a first proper outing as themselves I understand. Well done ladies, much respect earned for that. Now you hopefully feel that you have made a good step in the right direction in your lives.

If Emma can remember the names of the bars etc we attended in the correct order then that would be good please? I have no idea seriously.. no idea why..

Loved it.

Thanks everybody, take care

Glad the nighttime was also such a success.

Yes The southern part of the country sounds great for a Saturday in September or October and as a northern girl, I shall be staying overnight then.

A good step in the right direction for me - most definitely! I don't know what the hell I was worried about! Wonderful occasion. Memorable event. Insecurity disappearing now. Full of confidence which I believe I can and shall take forward.

Thanks everyone and thanks also for the photos.

Hugs to all

Coming from the northeast I thought Manchester was already south?

Hi all,

Thankyou Emma for arranging it all, Manchester is truly a lovely place.
Was so nice to meet you all, had a blast x.

Sorry about the dead phone episodes, but can't believe I had the courage to actually sit by myself in a bar having a couple if drinks after failing to find everyone.

**october**

If there's enough interest, I'll gladly arrange a meet in Brighton.
A nice meal & a nice messy night out x

Let me know, I'll start a new thread soon asking who's interested.

Brighton was an Idea, I know it can be expensive, but maybe not so much in October, or at least after the summer holidays are over.

Love you all Take care

Emma

I assume you went to Skin and that you told them quite correctly of course that we all had a great time on 16th and that it went really well for me? I am going there tomorrow 20th.

Sophie

I see there were problems after I left; I know you really enjoyed the afternoon and early evening as did I. I trust you got home safely on Sunday afternoon?

I am happy to travel to Brighton - I know that's where they have the office of Translife and that Brighton is very trans friendly. Indeed I am happy to travel to almost anywhere in the southern part of UK.

I think we provisionally agreed October and I confirm I am available either Sat Oct 5th or Sat Oct 12th. I shall await your "UK Meet Up 2019 (2)" thread in due course. Obviously we have plenty of time to chat about so much on Susans over the next few months.

Finally TO ALL may I thank you from the bottom of my heart both for a fantastic event on March 16th and for your friendship.

Hugs to all

Hi all,

Sorry for the delays in replying lifes a bit of a whirlwind at the moment.

Yes Katie had a quick drink at Molly's as it was close to the car park, then went over the road to iconic??
Had a mocktail then spent another 40 minutes refunding my hotel again, what a drama. Teach me for being so unorganised in my eagerness to get away.

It was truly mind opening the whole weekend, and its given me a new found confidence to face forwards and smile.

I'm definitely up for organising Brighton for early October and will get on that asap.
Fingers crossed itll be warm still too.

Anyway just started contacted a few restaurants and bars, I've had positive responses back.
I'll have more concrete details soon, just going to wait on numbers that are interested first.
