Title: Amateur Writer
Post by: Jennifer RachaelAnn on April 20, 2017, 04:12:20 PM
I love writing. All of my works are still deep in the editing phase, but as of now I have finished 2 full length novels, 3 short stories, and a hell of a lot of poetry. My best friend is an aspiring editor trying to build a portfolio so I posted everything I wrote online for her to check out, except the poetry. I zipped that and sent it to her. But she goes over what I have written and helps get it to a new draft, before starting again to fix things I missed.

I also have a lot of ideas written down for stories, I just have to figure out how I want to start them, where I want them to go, and how I want them to end. So I'm kicking around a few things.

Who else here loves to write?

I've had trouble with motivation to do much of anything lately, but when I am doing better I do like to write music lyrics a lot. I have a friend that I will be collaborating with at some point to make music for them. It's a very fun and cathartic activity to get out any intense feelings I have by writing.

I find it can be very therapeutic to just sit down and start writing. It doesn't have to be a novel or anything. Just what you're feeling at that moment. It can be 3 lines or 300 pages. It's good to vent to yourself every once in a while, especially if you're in a really dark place. I've done that several times. I've written things that no one but myself will ever read, let alone even know about. But as for stuff I would like to publish one day, it's all in the hopeful future.

It really helps to enter a world of your own creation where you can be you through your characters but also can influence and control the outcome of any given scenario. As people who are on the losing side more often than others this can be a great thing to do. I know it is for me.
