Title: A suggestion
Post by: AnneK on April 20, 2017, 09:11:42 AM
One thing I've noticed is that when reading message threads, I often find myself at the top of a new page.  I then have to go to the previous page and then scroll down to find the last message I read.  On some boards I've been on, I'm taken to the first unread message. This makes things a lot easier.  If it's not possible to implement this, perhaps a previous page button, that goes to the bottom of the previous page, so that it isn't necessary to scroll down from the top.  Of course a next page button would also be useful.

When I click the last post button at the right of the post (on Recent Topics), it takes me to wherever I left off in the thread.

I never noticed that.  I'll have to give it a try.

Thanks

Or, you could use the options available to you through your profile. See below for steps to enable this.

Hover your cursor over "Profile" and then click "Forum Profile".

In your list of available links, to the left of your profile detail editing area, under "Modify Profile", click on "Look and Layout".

Click to enable the checkbox next to the text, "Show most recent posts at the top."

Click "Change profile" button at the bottom right of the page (directly underneath the list of options, mentioned above).

Should be it. After that, you should see the latest post, every time you click on any thread.

Thanks.  I'll have to look into that.

Turns out I had been using that button and it's why I posted.  That button takes you to the last posted message, not the first you haven't read.  It works fine if there's only been one post since reading that thread, but requires scrolling back, if there are more than one.  Sometimes, that involves going to the previous page and then scrolling down to find where you left off.

Ah, yes. I know what you mean. I've seen that feature on other forums, too. I don't know that this site has that.

It works flawlessly for me, maybe my profile settings are different. I don't mark things read or unread, maybe that's the difference?

I use the show unread list and only use the mark read when there are only topics I'm not interested in left.

It takes you to the most recent post but not necessarily the last one you read...similar to the feature we have of looking at unread posts but in this case it is applied at the user level. The last post you read is where you want to kick off from not the lastest post to the thread...is that right?

Yes.  The current set up isn't too bad when it's just a couple above the latest, but it sometimes means going back a page and then scrolling down, just to see 1 or 2 posts at the bottom.
