Title: Hiking and Enjoying Nature's Scenery, Flowers and Gardening, Photos
Post by: Northern Star Girl on May 11, 2020, 02:08:00 pm
One of my favorite pastimes is enjoying the outdoors.  I love HIKING the nature trails to view beautiful natural scenery, mountains, lakes, wildlife, wildflowers... and it is fun exercise as well.  I will soon be posting my adventures as springtime returns.

Please feel free to add you Hiking adventures and photos.   Nature is for all of us to enjoy.

The weather has warmed up significantly this last 3 weeks or so as the days are getting much longer with clear sunny days.
Over the weekend the sunrise was 4:30AM and Sunset at 11:00PM  ....
... that is 18.5 hours of Sunshine and Daylight.

I went on a short hike into the nearby hills this last weekend to get some good exercise and to enjoy the scenery that Nature has to offer in my area.    I took the time and patience to take mostly photos of Wild Flowers.   My forum friend @madeleine was asking me about wild flowers here where I live so I posted these photos for her as well as everyone else to enjoy.
Enjoy the photos:

Life is resilient.
Beautiful photos.  I love the bee.
Please add more into the Alaskan summer.
The energy must be incredible considering the condensed growing window.

I'll add images to the nature thread, from the upper green river gorge and today's spring run off. My sweetie and I hiked around the area, steelhead anglers find these bends and pools attractive a certain time of year, it was quiet and uncrowded for us.... :)

With the long daylight hours now, sunshine, rain, and warmer temperatures... the plant life is springing up fast.
I am still working on my raised garden beds for veggies but here are pictures of the beautiful and colorful flowers around my home.

Sunrise 3:21AM    Sunset 12:08AM  (just after midnight)
21 hours of sun and about 3 hours of limited darkness, mostly twilight.

More to come soon.........

Danielle I love the pretty red and yellow flowers on the ground!

@Maddie
Dear Maddie:
The pretty red and yellow flowers are Painted Daisies  ...
They are a very hardy flower and the deer and critters don't have a taste for them so it is a good flower for me to plant around my home.

Thanks for your reply comment... you are always welcome on any of my threads.

@Jessica  @Maddie  @ChrissyRyan
... and others please feel free to join in here on this thread.

Well... finally... I have my raised garden beds planted, fenced in, and already sprouting veggies and some flowers.  Fortunately I have plenty of land to work with and plentiful water from my well and my nearby pond on my property.
I will be installing a higher fence perhaps next week....  it needs to be at least 6 to 8 feet high to discourage the deer from getting into my garden plot.

I know that Devlyn has her raised garden plot planted now and that Maddie has always had her garden ...   so I am wondering who else may have a garden going.  If so please post some photos and descriptions here on this thread or on your threads.

Nothing better than home grown, fresh picked vegetables that we grow ourselves with the help of sunshine and rain.

I will be looking forward to reading and seeing your replies.

HUGS,
Danielle

Compared to the pictures of the "gardens" that others like @Devlyn, @Jessica and @Tess100 shared, mine is still trying to grow...  it got a late start because of the cooler weather but now that the days are much longer now I expect that I will be harvesting very soon.

From hikes I have done the past few days, low elevation flowers are out nicely and some up higher too. The Alpine flowers will be a few weeks yet, should be good though. I am still looking for the nice clear days to get better vistas but we can still the mountains and that is good!

Okay I do not mean to scare anyone and I can insure that I do this with the most safety, concern and respect for my favourite furry friends, Bears! I live in the mountains where I see bears all the time and have done so for my entire life. I even had one in my yard a few days ago, I see loads of them, and they are my favourites.  Since Photography has been with me for 40 years I do love spring time when they first come out and are feeding after a long winter in a den, it is the perfect time to see them and photograph them. Here are some from this year spring in all of nature which all around me.
Many are from back roads and in the wilderness areas where they are safe.  Liina

Hey Liina, I love your bear pictures. We have black bears, like your first 3 pictures, here in Colorado, even in my neighborhood. Like you, we love them and don't worry about them (except we have to be careful to keep our trash in the garage until the morning of pickup day).

But that last one! We would probably call that a grizzly. Those are scary to me. Danielle has them in Alaska I know. We are lucky we don't have to deal with them here. Stay safe!

Hi Randy, yes you are correct with that observation it is a grizzly bear. And also you are correct they are very unpredictable and dangerous. Many folks do run into them hiking, biking and hunting around here for sure, I do prefer seeing them from a vehicle and that is where can get a picture of them without bothering them. Just this spring we have had 2 very interesting observations in our mountain nat'l parks of grizzly anomalies, one mama grizzly had to 2 cubs and one was a totally white. It was seen near the major highway several times though I have not seen this rarity.
Then about 3 weeks ago in a different area of the park, a mother grizzly with cubs showed up near one road and it had one of the cubs with all white head, a lady was able to get a distant picture of this little guy. You can find both of these on the internet now. Our mountains have many of these and one has to be prepared with spray and bear bangers if you run into them on foot. Fascinating creatures.

Very nice!

Thanks, Danielle and Chrissy,

Today it is raining and I cannot run outdoors. Instead, I walked along rural roads from the university campus to the city hall. Some drivers in the passing cars looked back at me in the traffic lights, making me worry about any possible accident  :D :D :D

They have been popular here in Korea during the past several hundred years. They were for the poor like Irish potatoes. They are sweet, but strangely I do not like them.

Anyway, a photo of Nature's Scenery. It is an entrance to my university campus. Of course, I can not hike with the 12-cm (4.7 inch) stilettoes.

Barbie so much has been ruined this year with the virus for sure.
As people from all over the world, forgetting our trans status, we as people cannot continue like this through 2021?.

We have sites to see new people to meet, new conversations to intrigue our minds.
This year has been damaging for so many :(

They contain a lot of fiber, helping bowel movement, and excellent for diet if you eat a proper amount. Nowadays I also eat one boiled small sweet potato every day. Boiled is better than grilled one for diet.

The name sounds a little bit awkward. Sweet potatoes came from Central and South America. They were later introduced to China, Ryuku, and then Japan in the 17-th century.

We're looking at possible snow here in WA tomorrow.  I am not looking forward to it, because I live on a hill, and I am not a fan of the cold.  It's not too bad compared to what it was like the last time I visited AK this time of year though.  Every once in awhile it piles up and I wish I had a snow machine.  Tomorrow I get supplies in case we get snowed in.

I enjoy watching your continued progress with your garden.... it will be interesting to read what you are going to decide to plant for winter veggies. ???
