Survey for pre and post operative girls - (approved)

This Survey has been approved by Cindy. Feel free to participate if you wish.

Hi everyone. :angel: I hope I'm able to post this here, but I am a post-operative Suporn patient who is also a Psychology Student, and I'm researching the effects of SRS on well-being, life satisfaction, and spatial abilities.

The questionnaire is linked below (full information is given via the link) and is completely anonymous, ethically approved by my university and only takes around 10 minutes to complete.

Please be either pre-operative or 9+ months post-operative. And if you participate do not skip any questions as these responses won't be included.

It would help myself and the trans community out a great deal if you could be part of this research.

What is the definition of pre-operative for this survey? (Simply intending GCS at all, or actually scheduled and "ready to go" in that it is as certain as it can be.)

Well that is a flaw as she has nor defined it.

Therefore I presume preoperative is not having had surgery.

Ok, done.

Observation: The candidate theorizes that hormones affect everything in the survey, including spatial abilities, but doesn’t adequately take into account that many pre-op transgender people are on androgen blockers (MtF) or testosterone (FtM). Assuming that pre-op people on HRT will have similar hormone levels as post-op, the study may be more valuable if pre-op were defined as also pre-HRT.

Also, while the candidate doesn’t specifically state so, it’s evident that the test is intended for MtF only.

Preamble states "waiting for surgery" I would take this to mean TS and planning to go for GCS.

In regards to the definition of pre-operative - Pre-opp is defined as those who are waiting to have srs or those who are non-opp, or any trans women who is transgender who hasn’t not had SRS.

And @steff2.0 - I have thought about this a lot, and because pre operative or those who aren’t taking HRT would have higher testosterone overall, I added a cognitive measure, however this study does focus more on well-being, and it is a dissertation project so not as in depth as a PHD for example.

Fwiw, I while I have no idea how strong the correlation is between testosterone levels and pre vs post-op.

My levels before GCS ran between 13-20 ng/dl which did correlate inversely with the amount of estradiol I was taking  and 3 months post op was 12. One more test at a different lab 5 mo post-op was "<8". The only baseline I ever knew had me at ~430ng/dl 20 years prior which I understood to be 5th percentile, quite low for a natal male. I didn't ever need spironolactone to control T, estradiol alone was sufficient to fully suppress down to low end if female range

I’m not sure that being pre-op with HRT correlates to having lower testosterone (T) than post-op.  Before HRT my T was  826 ng/dl which was high for my age.  HRT alone reduced it to <3 ng/dl.  That is also as low as can be measured.  Even if being post-op were to reduce it further, the change would not be measurable.

My pre-GCS testosterone levels have some similarity to SadieBlake's comments.  My endocrinologist looked at my test results and never prescribed a T-blocker - one of many reasons HRT is best handled by a physician as people don't necessarily fit simple categories.  But it's a moot issue as I am disqualified based on the survey description.
