A question about the language moderation
« on: February 17, 2020, 09:23:55 pm »
First off, I want to stress that I absolutely agree with moderating the language on the forums. We can say whatever we need to say, assuming we're not trying to talk about topics which for very good reasons aren't allowed here, without having to use inappropriate language. But I have a quick question about the filter. I just made an introduction post and a few times I used the words transgender and <not allowed>. Those went through fine. But a couple of times I capitalized those words in the middle of a sentence and they got edited. I was just curious why. I haven't been on transgender support sites in years but back then it was common to refer to the community as a whole with a capital T. Has the thinking changed in the time I've been away? Not that I really care, I'm fine writing the words with a lowercase T. I was just curious.

Hi and welcome to the site. I'm sure a staff member will be along in a while to formally welcome you .

In answer to your question, I'm not sure! Capitalisation in itself should not be having an effect, but I'm certain someone will be along within the next few hours to answer your question.

Hi Mike, welcome to Susan's Place!

The issue you're running into has nothing to do with capitalising Transgender, it's that you are using transgender(ed). Danielle provided you with a link outlining the proper usage.

Saying that we are transgender(ed) is the same as saying that a nice Irished, whited, bisexualed girl like me took you out for Italianed food with some of her Aisaned and Blacked friends. I'm guessing (well, I'm hoping) that isn't how you speak.  :)

I hope this clarifies the matter.
