Hello everyone...
I have been reading and looking over many other sites..Its hard to believe that there is so much info out there, but sometimes its like reading instruction manual and thats just total  Greek to me.. lol
I have thought of doing this for a VERY long time and I am so ready for this. I know its a long process and I am expecting that.
I have a great support team. Smiles
I dont have insurance and honestly I am not sure where to even begin...so if you all could help me start on this road it would mean so much...
I really need to know how to begin the process of FtM...
I live in a very small community and my travel is limited...so the Dr. and community wouldnt be much help.
If you could help it would mean alot...
Thanks

Taylor

One word.
Therapist.
Without a therapist, I definitely never would have gotten this far.
In most places, you aren't 'allowed' to embark upon the 'official' transsexual path without at least four months of therapy (That's how long I was required to see a therapist, but some require a minimum of six months,) Therapy is a great idea. It'll help you relax and calm any dysphoria and depresison that you might have (Like it did for me,) and it can help give you confidence (Even if your therapist isn't transgendered,) This is usually the first stop for most transfolk out there.

However, I've known some transys who prefer to do something like a real life experience first. But if you don't pass, this can be difficult.

If you really want hormones, going to a therapist is the best idea, as you usually can't get hormones without a referral from a gender therapist.

Or you could always find a local Pride Center with a Trans group and just talk to some of the locals to figure out how they started up.

Other than a doctor and a community, there's really no way to do it. Unless you just dress and act the part, but even so, unless you look really manly, you won't be taken seriously, and are more likely to be viewed as a lesbian, or a dyke, rather than a man. Sorry, hun, but it's just the truth.

If you have access to the web you have access to gender therapists. I have extremely limited travel as well and not much place to go but for at least an hour away, but really the therapist is the first step it seems :)

Look around susan's and you will find information on what therapy is available online that is trustworthy. Some well known therapists in other areas do skype therapy, and there are also websites dedicated to doctors who work with people online or by phone. Make sure you check them out first, get in contact with people who have been treated by them, there are plenty here who can help with that, lots of threads already around  gathering the information (been looking them up myself too).

Therapists are not out of the question if you're in a small town/community with limited resources, and if you're worried about finding the doctors you need in your area some therapists can steer you in the right direction and/or may be able to recommend one already, otherwise the internet (researching) is your best bet, that and calling around. :)
