A group of individuals, activist groups and Metro Council members sued the state Monday to overturn the law that nullified Nashville's contractor nondiscrimination ordinance.

The lawsuit, filed in Davidson County Chancery Court, claims the law "embodies an animus toward gay and transgender people" and violates equal-protection standards.
