The "Trans" Word

As regular readers of this blog have no doubt noticed, I use the "trans" word a lot. It's one of the all-purpose terms — an adjective, in this case — that can describe many people, ie. transgender people, transsexual people and transitioned people (like me). Beyond gender meanings, it is also a great prefix for, say, transcendentalists (like me). lol.

It's no secret that many trans folks object to being called "transgender" people. The word "transgender" is an umbrella term that covers all trans people, yet folks who transition aren't always happy to be placed under that umbrella. The same can be said for many "transsexuals," who differentiate themselves from the transgender masses.

Hey, to each their own, eh? We should be free to define ourselves whatever way we want.
