On the surface, Donna Rose is a typical 53-year-old woman.

She enjoys going on dates in her home town of Charleston, S.C., and has a successful business as an IT consultant.

Like other women her age, Rose also has a grown son, 25, with whom she has a great relationship, despite the fact he lives in Austin.

In fact, they are very likely to talk on Sunday when the son calls her up to wish her a happy Father's Day.

That's not a typo: Up until 1996, Rose was known as "David," and lived life as a man. She was married for 15 years and raised a son. For a time after her reassignment surgery, she was a single parent and had to work out the proper terminology with her son.

I think that hallmark missed an opportunity there...

"Happy Father's Day, Girl!"

Or

"My Dad really knows how to...

Fix her car...

Live her life the way she wants...

And...

Love her kids and be loved by them!

-Sandy
Out of the darkness, into the light.
Following my bliss.
I am complete...

"Don't ask me, it was on fire when I lay down on it"

this kind of article (and the whole fathers day thing in general) is great for those that strongly believe that there is no such thing as transition and that you are and will always be your birth sex no matter what procedure or surgery you go through. I bet the hater blogs etc are having a field day. I don't blame them. :/

Well, in this house, there was one "Happy (fill in the blank)" given, out of a possible five (children).  In fact, there was only one parent-child communication out of a possible five.  A lot of kids feel they lost their dad and are pissed because their dad took his own life.
When you judge others, you do not define them, you define yourself.
