My mom got all snoopy on me today.  I've been telling her I want to cut my hair really short, like buzzed to about an inch, and she told me today she really wishes I'd reconsider.  She said usually it's only trans"gender" (yeah, with the disgust) or lesbian people that do that.  She doesn't want her "daughter" walking around MSU and have people saying "there's the lesbian from owen hall"...Like people would do that anyway, then she laughs and says "unless there's something you're not telling me...because if there is you can tell me"

What do I do? I laughed it off...and dropped the conversation.  Now I don't know what to do. I'm not ready to come out to her, and I'm definately not ready to deal with all of that.  Everything she hears from me and everything that goes on in my life she tells her friends at work and they have to put their input in on it...I just...I don't know.

Help me. Please?

When my mom asked me if I was transgender I just said yes. She still doesn't believe me, but I don't care what she thinks and I told her that. If you're not ready to come out then don't do it, but if you've been meaning to tell her then it's so much easier to just say yes when someone asks rather than explaining it.

Eck, sorry things are crappy between you two. Her discussing your life with workfriends seems particularly irksome. (And yeah, only dicks would do that "lesbian from owen hall" thing -- and why would you want to associate with dicks?)

If you're comfortable with telling her, then come out. Be strong; she doesn't have to know. You're an adult.
When and if you're ever ready to tell her, do it with just you two, and stress that she doesn't go gossiping about it. Be confident in yourself.

It definitely sounds like your mother is goading you. I wouldn't let her get to you. My mother has done the same thing to me in the past and I try my best to just ignore it and do my own thing. She got better when I started undergrad and pretty much leaves me alone now that I'm off to grad school. So, hopefully time will work in your favor the same way it has for me.

I wouldn't worry about her telling people at work, unless you're planning to go stealth and they interact with you quite a bit. If you never see them, I wouldn't stress about that particular detail.
