To Die Like a Man is melodrama about an aging drag queen, her junkie boyfriend and the endless trials and tribulations of her everyday life. The film begins with a soldier -- male-est of males, you could say -- smearing his face with the black and green paint of camouflage makeup and engaging in night maneuvers of various sorts.

From soldiers, the story changes focus to Tonia, an older blond drag artist. Different makeup applies here. She is hearing about sex change surgery from a doctor who illustrates with an origami penis which he re-folds into a vagina. Informative.
