In the weeks leading up to my sexual reassignment surgery, two gay men I know approached me separately and asked me: "How can you do it!? How can you part with something so beautiful?"
They were talking about my male bits, of course. Both of these men are well-educated and are all-around good souls. But their questions, almost pleas to reconsider, were coming from their sexual orientation. They weren't thinking in terms of gender identity, they were thinking in terms of sexual attraction.
