How do I make realistic sideburns? Yesterday I was watching this movie called she's the man, it's were this girl poses as her brother to get into the men's soccer team (bit of a cliché though..) Anyway I've been looking up videos on youtube on how to dress to appear more masculine and she basically passed :D though I'm wondering where they bought those sidesburns, or perhaps they made them. idk..but i'd like a set a sideburns for myself. Any ideas?

I have not seen the movie, but when I was dabbling in special effects and theater make up, there were sideburns and other facial hair you could buy then trim and use spirit gum to apply.  The hair is on a mesh like backing, so you can easily trim it.  It is real hair, so it can be dyed but also comes in about 5 different colors to help match to your own hair.  The set runs about $16.00 I think. Spirit gum and remover runs less then $7.00 for both bottles normally.  There are a few online stores that carry these items also.

If you are stuck with Halloween stores because you have no theater stores or can't order online, you can also use crepe hair, but it is a royal pain even if you have worked with it before because it is artificial, comes braided so you have to iron it flat and looks best as very short hair or stubble, but hard to apply well because it is used with spirit gum also.

Other then that, you can make sideburn pieces out of panty hose and natural hair, but I don't suggest it because it takes a very long time.  This technique is not used anymore because of the other pieces that are commercially made and at low cost.

This is just two sites.  Just google real hair sideburns and you should get a few choices.

There are several types on these sites. Like I said, you can cut down any of them.  They work well but if somebody is close enough, the mesh base has a chance of being seen.   These are the same type of hair pieces used in theater and movies.  When I shop locally at the theater store, they still recommend these types of hair.  I have dyed them myself and they hold the dye very well.   It takes time and practice to get it pretty stealth, and maybe even some light makeup, but it is possible to do a good job.

I've used crepe wool and something like wax to hold it on my face. Spirit gum has a weird feel to it (and to me smells like pine trees) that isn't for me.

Pretty much get clippers (the kind a barber uses) to make really fine shavings which go on a plate. Get a blush brush to pick up the hairs, apply whatever adhesive you want to use to your face then sort of brush it on in the direction the hair should grow.
