In the hagiography of Sylvia Rivera and perhaps Marsha Johnson we are left with the impression that they are the only connection between the Gay Community and the "Transgender Community", because after all "They were at Stonewall".
A much larger element of actual transgender folks, the queens, are often exclude from the collective "Transgender Umbrella", treated as an embarrassment in a manner some might describe as heterosexist.
When queens are actually my favorite transgender people.
I would much rather be friends with a transgender person who came out through the gay community than one who came out through the straight community.
