Hi my name's Natalie and my partner is a transgender man and we have recently moved to a country area in Victoria, Australia....
We hadn't found a GP yet so we took his Testosterone to the local hospital emergency room so a nurse could give him his injection. He was due for his shot on Wednesday (Sustanon 250mg, once every three weeks) and we went to the hospital Friday night (so it was already two days late)...what happened at the hospital was this.....

the nurse just wanted us out of there so she rushed him through the shot. She had no idea how to give a "T" shot and asked "is it meant to be this thick?" and when she gave the shot to him (in his left upper arm) she obviously didn't get it in his muscle and she pulled the needle out straight away and we saw alot of the liquid come back out of the area where the needle was. He's been on "T" for over a year now and every single time he's had it previously (from his original doctor) it hurt and obviously (and thankfully!) it got into his muscle. But this shot at the hospital DID NOT HURT and didn't go into the muscle!!!!!!

So what we need to know is, is it a good idea to go to another GP as soon as possible and get his shot redone into his muscle? or should he just wait three weeks to get his next one? what COULD go wrong if the "T" didn't get into his body properly? he is really worried about his period coming back too if he doesn't get his shot redone :(

We would really like some info and help if you can please :)
thanks!

Well, here's what I know.  If the nurse does'nt know how to give T shots, then, yea, look elsewhere.  I always inject into the thigh muscle.  Bigger target.  There have also been times that the T does come back out, but it has never been a problem.  I find it usually happens when I don't first, loosen up the muscle.  (Usually by doing some deep breathing exercise.) And, when that happens, I still stay on the same schedule.
Not sure if that helps.

Periods do not usually come back after one missed shot. It took three months for mine to come back (there was a screw up while I was on T - something wrong with the vial) and  even when it did come back it wasn't like a regular one, it was only a couple days and extremely light compared to what I used to get. The only risk on going back to get the dose done again, is if it was done correctly, the high levels of testosterone could turn into estrogen.

Why would you go to the emergency room unless it's an emergency? :/ Don't they have walk-in clinics there?

That nurse seemed un-qualified and for good reason - she's an ER nurse. No life-threatening condition requires an injection of testosterone so she's not familiar with it.

I suggest you get him to do his own shots (it's not hard) or else learn to do them for him. To avoid it coming out you should leave the needle in at least 10 seconds after giving the shot.

If that's not an option then yes, get a new GP.

hi dmx, no they don't have walk in clinics here in regional victoria and you have to be put on a waiting list to get to see a regular doctor. we still had to drive 40 minutes to get to this hospital, lol. and we haven't talked about doing his own shots (or me doing them for him) as we're not even sure if we're allowed to do that as we're in australia....anyone know? it would be easier, and perhaps we could talk to his doctor about that.....

hi jayvalentine, thank you so much for the info about the periods! it's given him so much relief :)

so even though it wasn't injected into his muscle, he still got some testosterone in him is that correct?
