New to the forum, how do I change and update my profile?

Hi there, my name's Roman and I'm a transguy in high school. I'm new to the forum and I'm trying to fill out my profile with a little more info on myself. The problem is that whenever I try to click on "modify profile" it'll only allow me to apply to a group membership. Do I have to wait until I'm in a group in order to further add to my profile, like an avatar and such, or am I doing something wrong?

But take it easy, what you have is fine. The mods tend to disapprove of anyone who seems to be trying to bump their post count up, especially with irrelevanceies.
