Miss Universe Expresses Support for Transgender Community/ Miss Universo Muestra Apoyo por la Comunidad Transgénero

While visiting Guatemala, Navarette met with many transgender women who had been victims of abuse and discrimination. Navarette is working with PASMO, an organization that does education and prevention work on sexually transmitted infections.
Navarette noted that transgender women should be treated no differently from anyone else and deserve legal protections, as well as better access to employment and medical care, and to not be turned away from hospitals as if often the case.
