In the beginning, God created male and female, but on rare occasions the question of an individual's sex is not that simple. God loves transsexual and intersexual individuals; however, the question still remains – how should Christians respond to the transgender community?

Transsexuals are chromosomally and anatomically correct individuals who feel they are incapable of relating to their assigned sex.  According to an article the Reality Resources Web site by Dr. Neil E. Whitehead, a scientist who has worked with the United Nations, there is no scientific evidence to support that transsexuality is an effect of hormonal or genetic disorders.

"Like homosexuality, transsexuality appears to be the result of a complex interaction between biology, social environment and personal choice," said Whitehead.

This one is actually less enlightened than the previous article.  I mean using Whitehead and that particular era of John Hopkins?  Sad and pathetic for the little poly-theists.  Have fun with this article too.

I'm very glad I held off writing her an e-mail.  I was going to congratulate her on being an enlightened Fundamentalist Christian.

Instead of doing real research, she uncovers something that supports and defends her originally stated position without bothering to find out it's discredited -- essentially defending the 'moral' position and its ideology rather than seeking enlightenment.  I'm afraid Ms. Thurman would have contentedly 'found' Galileo to be a heretic and thus deserving of punishment for upsetting God's order with the earth at the center and the planets on crystal spheres rather than to peek through his new-fangled 'telescope' at Jupiter.

Maybe someone should send her research papers from Jurassic-Clarke...

QuoteMcHugh discovered that although most post-op transsexuals expressed contentment with their surgery, they still experienced the same difficulties at work and in relationships.

Well, GEE, maybe if the religionists stopped writing religious propaganda masked as scientific studies we wouldn't have these "difficulties" with the masses.

How about examining the issue of gender and moving from there.  I find it doubtful that this author has a background in this field.  There has been a lot written on the sociological, psychological, and biological factors of gender.  Even physical sex is not clear cut and well defined (in spite of these anti-science people wanting it to be so).  Now to cut them some slack, back in the 18th and 19th Centuries things seemed to be a bit more cut and dry in regards to the actual biology.  Granted there was something seen in the psychological makeup but that was all blamed on the mother or the weak father.   ::)

The author needs to be a bit more well read and a bit more educated before thinking that her writings hold any validity whatsoever.  This "article" is nothing but a cut and paste job and the editor must be asleep at the wheel.

Now I know why someone I know who was a religious studies major referred to Liberty as the school where the people who cannot cut it in a real college attend.  He had other words to mix in but I will not speak of in polite company.

I am tempted to send her the research papers that I have and unless this school is truly in the dark ages, she should have access to , so that she may flesh out her education a bit.  Does not mean she will suddenly see us as human but at least she may then at least come across as being properly educated within this field.

Well, we are talking about Liberty University here.  To expect anything different than this kind of drivel out of their "educated" people would be silly.  What we can really expect is right wing bigotry hidden behind a cloak of so called theology.  You start with a conclusion, find Bible verses that you think support your case, add in a dash of research from others (no matter how flawed) and viola, you have a "scholarly" paper that the religious right (they are neither) will adore.

Finally, wasn't it Falwell (along with Robertson) who said the 9/11 attacks were punishment for the U.S. catering to gays and lesbians?

Quote from: WikipediaLiberty University is a Christian liberal arts university in Lynchburg, Virginia. It was founded as Lynchburg Baptist College in 1971 by conservative Christian Jerry Falwell, who is also the Senior Pastor of Thomas Road Baptist Church. The school was previously known as Lynchburg Baptist College and Liberty Baptist College before settling on its current name.

The whole article is worth a good scan, and I believe will illuminate Ms. Thurman's position well.
