So i had my first injection twelve hours ago and now ive come down off cloud nine i was just wondering if the changes are slower as you get older? I'm not expecting anything for the first few weeks anyway but i would like to think i'll see some changes in the first 3 months. But at 39 will they be as rapid or obvious as on the younger guys?

I am 40 and it has been slow.  I expect it though since I am older, but just like the younger folks it will vary from person to person.  I have been on T for 3 months now and there have been some changes.  There were changes within a few weeks but nothing super drastic.

Libido increases, areas I had facial hair have a bit more hair.  I had to shave daily before, same now.  The hair that did not grow fast before is still on the slower side.  My legs are becoming thicker and my feet must be getting a bit bigger to because I went to put on my tennis shoes yesterday to work out and they were borderline too small.  I have not worn them in a few weeks, maybe a month.  I have been wearing that size for most of my life, so I know it was not the shoe.  I always buy the same brand/size and this was not a brand new pair of shoes.  My voice seems a tad bit deeper also, but still not too noticeable of a change.  I have a pretty neutral voice anyway until I raise the tone, then goodbye any passing attempt I had.

So yeah, they happen slower, but I don't think it is so slow it can not compare to younger guys based on what I have read on other threads.  Also depends on how much you are taking.  I am taking 2/3 full dosage weekly, and should be moving up to full dosage in 3 weeks when I go to my next apt. as long as my blood work comes back ok.  Than changes should be more rapid.

Thank you for your answer. It seems i have waited my whole life for this and part of me wants the changes NOW and part of me isnt expecting much. But hey ho back to the waiting game.

typically they say the older you are the slower it gets but in all honesty, everyone is completely different with how hormones react to each of us.

I started two years ago at 35. Im almost 37 and my changes were lightening quick.

So i think it really varies based on genetics, etc

Im friends with a 58 year old FTM on campus and I have been impressed with his results. He has the full beard going on, his voice is like lumberjack low and you would have no earthly idea he was born a girl. I believe he started HRT at 48 or 49

I was in my forties when I started, and things went pretty rapidly. My sex drive exploded on the fifth day. My appetite for food really didn't change, perhaps because I eat a lot of protein. My equipment never got very big, but it started growing almost immediately. My fat started redistributing quickly, but I'm hoping that a bit more will occur. I've read that the last changes can take years. My voice starting drifting down pretty fast, but it went in stages. I stabilized at a tenor for quite some time and didn't slip into baritone range until early in the second year. I'm still getting very small shifts in timbre. Oh, and my hairline started shifting rapidly, and now I have my father's hairline.

After almost two and a half years, I don't have as much body hair as I would like. And not nearly enough facial hair. But I think that's just my genetics (I am blond), not my age.

I have a few "older" friends who were told not to expect much because they were middle-aged. Wrong. I think it's mostly genetics.

I started T at 47, and was passing pretty consistently at the 3-4 month mark.  Rare to be misgendered after that.  FWIW I was very feminine pre-T.  I am also on gel.

I think it just varies from person to person regardless of age.

Started taking T at 50+ & have consistently passed since around 4-5 months.
Facial hair and voice changed pretty quick to help with that.

I still see a female shape but other people apparently do not.

I ve passed with strangers for years- as long as i have my chest covered up. Thank you all for your replies, i'm looking forward to seeing the changes even if they will be slower than id like. Id love to wake tomorrow look in the mirror and see the real me looking back at me but im not sure if there is a real me hidden or if this is what im gonna get. If that makes sense

Your changes will come with time. I have heard that it takes longer with us older (over 30) crowd but I disagree and think it is more genetics based. I've been on T for almost three years and would like to have seen more (male centric) fat distribution and more facial hair - I have to shave every day because my neck and sides grow in fast, but nothing on my upper lip other than peach fuzz still.

Somewhere i heard that if a person such as myself has a lot of belly fat, or is fatter, that the T has a slower time working and not as good as results. Wish I heard that when I first started 3 years back and would have taken my physical fitness and eating more serious then instead of playing catch up now. Not sure if this is true though, maybe others can chime in with their thoughts.
