The Facts About India's Infant 'Sex Changes'
The Bilerico Project

Canadian and international press outlets reported last month that in India, the preference to have male children is so strong that parents are having their female infants surgically assigned (a.k.a. "sex changes") to male. There were all sorts of problems with this story, but some of the verdicts have come in. Here are the facts (to the best of our available information) of the matter.

This story definitely looks like another beat-up of a figment of someone's imagination  to boost sales, like the supposed vast number of attacks on Indians in Melbourne last year.  I followed that one in the Indian papers on-line, and this one looks like another case of never letting the truth get in the way of a good story.

I agree with Karen.  All that I see are the usual abortions of female fetuses in India and China especially with the Chinese "one child" law.  I have never heard of infant sex changes for the purpose of having a male heir.  Would those operations and the male hormone regimen that comes later be as or more costly as having the female child left as is?  It has been proven that assigned sex at birth has bad and/or fatal consequences when that child grows up.  Those that accepted their assignment felt lied to and betrayed anyway when they found out.
India, China, and other countries whose people practice this policy of infanticide will pay for this when the surplus of males mature and will find no mates.

Is the paper that ran the story originally owned by Murdoch?  If so, there's your proof!>:-)
