Has anyone here who's on T used Rogaine for hair loss? My therapist recommended I start using it right when I start T because my dad was bald (he started going bald at 19, and the top of his head was completely bald by the time he was in his late 20's I think). Anyone else had this advice?

Most hair loss treatments involve estrogen --- so it's a catch 22 --- talk with your doctor and see what the options are

Rogaine does not involve oestrogen, I've researched it quite a bit as an aid in all around bodily hair growth (including facial).
http://jefffsbeardboard.yuku.com/topic/3377/MINOXIDIL-SUMMARY-F-A-Q-Experiences-from-readers <- Rogain is pretty much just minoxidil, and was first used to treat hypertension.

As far as using it for your head? I've heard only good things about it. Seems like a miracle cure! If you use it for at least 6 months, the hair you grow should stay and will not just fall out once you stop using it. Side effects are usually just dry skin, so use a shampoo to combat that. I wouldn't use it if you're not actually going bald, and unless you want hair growth elsewhere be careful with how you apply it and use gloves etc...

Honestly I am very tempted to try using it to grow body hair/ facial hair, but I can't find any good documentation of how that would work on a female body; minoxidil stimulates any hair folicles, turning them into vellus hair and then gradually maturing them. I really can't see that it would make a difference but I was going to wait to be on T, see if I grow face fluff quick or what not (give it 6 months say) and then start with Rogaine and speed it up. It's exciting to know that if I am not genetically inclined to grow a lot of facial hair, Rogaine will help me at the end of the day- as well as stopping me from being bald at a young age if that is in my genes on T. :D

I haven't tried Rogaine. I was losing hairs after I started T, and I wasn't sure whether it was incipient baldness or just my hairline shift. My doctor suggested Rogaine, but that product doesn't do anything for a receding hairline, and I didn't seem to have male pattern baldness. So I wound up getting a prescription for Finasteride. When I shampoo, I still lose more hairs than I did pre-T, but my hairline isn't receding anymore, and I don't seem to be losing any volume. So I don't know what is going on.

I'm still on Finasteride, and I'm not sure whether I'll keep it up. I don't have any unpleasant side effects, but I also can't tell whether it has slowed down my masculinization process at all.
