Are Indian doctors turning girls into boys for parents who wanted a son?

If you are looking for perverse consequences of India's worsening gender ratio, look no longer. Millions of girls are missing, aborted because of a deeply entrenched preference for sons. The consequence shortage of women has reportedly led to practices like kidnapping brides and wife-sharing. But in the north India city of Indore in Madhya Pradesh something even more bizarre is happening, according to the Hindustan Times. Couples are paying surgeons to do sex change operations on infant girls to transform them into boys.

....oh, wow.  I don't even know what to say, really.

Pardon me if I overstep my bounds here, but...
I mean, it's already a difficult path in to walk in life, when one is born with the wrong gender, but having to live every day with the fact that your own parents did it to you, because they disliked your gender, a part of who you are, so intensely that they change you without even considering how you feel about it first, or how hard your life will be now that the inside no longer fits the outside?  That's painful to even think about.  Those poor girls.   :'(

I mean, if the girls were already transgender and wanted the surgery, that's different than changing a cisgender girl against their will just because you as a parent wanted a boy instead of a girl.   :(

Debunked a few weeks ago. Bad reporting making a story out of nothing. It's intersex kids - and thank God they're not chopping off their genitals.

This story, when it first appeared, was preposterus.

But it does indicate that many, otherwise intelegent and thoughtful news outlets are still capable of questionable reporting at times.

Does kinda shake the faith in these papers generally though. This wasn't just bad reporting. The whole story was so clearly based upon impossibilities.
