VANCOUVER, BC - "You are allies when I say you are." That is one of the statements made by Vancouver transgender activist Tami Starlight in regards to some gay and lesbian attempts at allying with transgenders during Pride celebrations this week.

Starlight's fed up with what she believes to be Canada's various pride societies' exclusion and oppression of transgendered people, especially by the Vancouver Pride Society (VPS), the organization responsible for most the city's annual GLBTIQ Pride events.

"You are allies when I say you are."
You are allies when you stand up to defend me... even when I don't ask you to. That's the difference between using people and having friends.
"Anyone who attempts to play the 'real transsexual' card should be summarily dismissed, as they are merely engaging in name calling rather than serious debate."
