I wasn't going to post this, but I thought I should let people know that Eckerd Pharmacy is a good employer for our kind. I suppose I can't apply this statement to all Eckerds, but the ones on Long Island are good.
I was hired there less than a year ago as a photo technician (under my old name). I told my boss about the change, and he was fantastic about it. He started changing my paperwork and notified the other employees, and everyone was great. So, so far this is isolated to a single store. Now less than a week later, the photo manager got a call from corporate asking if she wanted to promote anyone... well, she did, me. Now, because my information change in the company's records was in process, my situation had to be explained to just about everyone I would be coming into contact with during the week or so I needed to get ready to manage my own lab. Well, everyone I came into contact with who knew my situation (including the district manager) was amazingly nice. The only person who knows about my past in the store I'm now working in, is the manager (who's actually moving on soon, anyway) and he's been amazingly good, too. I can't count how many people at that company complimented me for my courage in doing what I've done... they're all really nice people, and it became clear that Eckerd (on Long Island, because I can't speak for other regions) offers a good, safe working enviornment for people with any kind of alternative lifestyle in general. I realized they even seem to have an unusually high number of gay employees, judging by the stores I've visited.
It's a shame I probably won't be with them for more than another year.
