Has anyone been prescribed testosterone by their surgeon?

My surgery was May 9 2011, the last 4 weeks or so my energy level has increasingly dropped to where i fall asleep at work, lucky i telecommute from home, i get a good 8 hours of sleep and am still tired, i fall asleep in my chair in the evening etc., my Endo had a total testosterone test done per Dr. Mcginn's request, it came back <10 ng/dl, normal female range is 20 ng/dl to 70 ng/dl,  i sent Dr. Mcginn an email last week giving her the results but had not heard back from her so i called her office, Sara her office manager said she would let her know, about 15 minutes later Dr. Mcginn called, i described my symptoms, she is prescribing testosterone cream that i will apply once a day, she said my energy level and libido should pick up in about 3 days, she also recommended testosterone cream with estrogen, this can only be ordered through a compounding pharmacy, she does not know if my Endo will do this due to compounding pharmacies not being regulated by the FDA and my Endo being a stickler for rules since he is the head of the oncology department at one of our local hospitals, she would like my total testosterone level around 80 ng/dl.

Does anyone use testosterone cream with estrogen added?

Just my two cents: I think a goal of 80 ng/dL of T level is pushing it.
You should be able to get results on 20 or 30.
That is, if you are going to get any results at all.

I had my surgery in March and in April, I had my hormone levels done and my T was < 10 ng/dl as well. My doc wasn't worried about it and neither was I really.....oddly enough in June when I saw him again, my T was up to 30 ng/dl . So I think there may be a time period between the testicles being removed and the adrenal glands kicking in and taking over. It'll be interesting to see what it is in September.

If it is an energy problem, you might want your doc to look into the thyroid numbers as well.

My thyroid numbers were in the normal range as were everything else that my endo checked except the total testosterone level, you may be correct in that my level will come up after some time but right now i am lacking energy which Dr. Mcginn says should get back to normal in about 3 days, i took my first dose of testosterone/estradiol cream today, hopefully i will have more energy by Friday.

Hi Paula,

And did you get results from it, or is it too early to tell?

It has been about 3 weeks since i started the testosterone/estradiol cream that was prescribed by Dr. Mcginn, after about 3 days my energy level started to rise and i do not fall asleep in the evening like i had been doing, my libido also has gone up, still working on having an orgasm but i feel it is only a matter of time, i see my gp in September and will have the total testosterone rechecked to see where my levels are at, it may be as Debra said and my adrenal gland will produce enough after everything balances out.
