Malpractice!

Today I went in for a minor surgery to have a benign tumor removed. When I woke up in recovery the recovery nurse said there was nothing there and that everything was fine. I asked what happened and they said that the surgeon gave them nothing more than what they told me and that OTC medication should be enough for pain. He did not even come to recover to speak to me. He told my spouse what happened and that was it. When I had my consult with him over a month ago I spoke to him about doing an MRI or sonogram to know more about the "tumor" which he said was not necessary because he was for sure it was a Lipoma. I had to call his office and speak to a office admin to have him call me after I was discharged to find out exactly what happened. I am not going to have to see a pain management specialist for back pain because there is a muscle that did not heal properly from an injury that I do not recall happening and possible nerve damage. So now I am out of work for a week for a surgery that I did not need to have and dealing with more pain than before.

Wow...seriously?  And that raises all kinds of warning flags.  I could've sworn generally in medicine that paranoia is the driving force behind half of  anything done. S: "Well, surgery went well ^^ ... ...COME FOR AN APPOINTMENT! D:" I'm surprised you didn't do anything on that month ago...this all smells unprofessional...
I don't really know what to suggest, but I feel sure there must be something you can do... good luck with this round ;.;

I agreed to do surgery after the consult a month ago to try and find relief for my back pain. I really just don't know what to do at this point because I am not the kind of person to sue but this has got me so upset that I want him to be held accountable. 

I also have felt taken advantage of because every Dr. I have seen goes crazy when they find out that my out of pocket maximum has been met with my insurance.  I've had 2 x-rays, 1 MRI, 1 CT, and 2 sets of blood work pertaining to other issues and all came up clean. I feel he may have known it wasn't a lipoma and wanted to cut and bill vs. run tests.

In my part of the world (Australia) it is standard practice to send of the removed tissue for histology to confirm that it was a lipoma.

Sounds a little odd.

Nothing was removed. There was no lipoma, just excess muscle tissue from an old injury that I do not recall having.
