I'm seeing these days that homophobia and transphobia are pretty much the same thing. They certainly share the same roots. People who can be called "transphobic" are usually "homophobic," too. In fact, their transphobia is rooted in homophobia — they don't see trans women as bona-fide women. They can't get over the fact that we once had male bits.

Time to start addressing these issues a little more seriously here:

I don't think the Civil Liberties definition completely explains it. So, I will take a run at it from my perspective, based on my experiences.

First, it should be noted that transphobia and homophobia don't always translate into discrimination.  In fact, I think the vast majority of homophobes and transphobes are simply indifferent to gays and trans people — unless confronted with a situation in which they must respond. For example, when I experienced discrimination in dating clubs, it was because I was there, "looking" for a date (and doing some investigative journalism). The guys who were initially interested in me suddenly found themselves having to confront something that made them feel very uneasy. But they didn't go looking for a transitioned lady to discriminate against. Our paths simply crossed.

I've noticed that most phobic people don't seem to have the ability to distinguish the difference and just rope everyone in as being gay
