The Vatican has likened being gay to incest and pedophilia in condemning a United Nations gay rights resolution.

[...]

"Instead of 'gender,' the concept we should use is 'sex,' a universal term in natural law referring to male and female," Tomasi said.

"In fact, it seems that terms such as 'gender' or 'sexual orientation' are devised to escape reality and to accommodate a variety of feelings and impulses that then are transformed into rights."

Vatican official: UN gay 'rights' agenda endangers Church's freedom

Geneva, Switzerland, Jul 8, 2011 / 06:08 am (CNA/EWTN News).- The Vatican's representative to the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva says a recent resolution on "sexual orientation and gender identity" is part of an agenda that could restrict the Church's freedom.

"The resolution marks a change. It is seen as the beginning of a movement within the international community and the United Nations  to insert gay rights in the global human rights agenda," said Archbishop Silvano Tomasi, head of the Holy See's Permanent Mission to the U.N. in Geneva, in a recent e-mail interview with CNA.

Huh. It's funny they should have a problem. I mean how many catholic priests have be charged for molesting the alter boys? As long as they confess their sin on Sunday it's ok right?
Bunch of hippocrytes.

Well you are having sex with someone called Father, Brother and Sister, so I can see that incest fantasy real clear.  And if anyone knows the Pedo Bear it's the Catholic Church, and that ain't no modern day problem either.

So gay people shouldnt have human rights? Is the archbishop saying the church and it's governments reserves the right to punish gay people or to allow them to be harmed with no rights or protections? Why dont they just come out and say there are folks who deserve to be stoned, it would be more honest.

Yes they do think LGBT people don't deserve human rights. They'd shoot us all if they could, so instead they try to starve us out with hate laws and employment/housing discrimination.

Is it any wonder why so many LGBTers hate religion?

Religious hate is a growing trend.  Not only is religion anti-gay, but they are often anti-science as well.  There is growing activism within atheist and scientific communities to disparage religion.  You can't really blame people for hating religion.  The religious fervor to block certain types of scientific advancement is almost as loud as their outcry against homosexuals.

It seems that the major religions are slowly alienating themselves out of existence.  They can't convert any new members because the only people willing to join those religions are fundamentalists who probably grew up with it to begin with.  All of the moderate and reasonable people are already separating themselves from the extremist religious movements as more conventional and inclusive churches are replacing the fire-and-brimstone brick houses where they preach this kind of stuff.

I'm afraid that the major religions don't have enough ground to attack anyone else.  If even one more group is attacked, the Vatican will quickly lose what credibility it has left.  The world is realizing that functional morality makes a better world than religious morality.  Without proof of God (unlikely) it is going to be increasingly difficult for religions to play the morality card as more people are beginning to see it for what it is:  outdated rules created by desert nomads a few thousand years ago.  Many religions are promoting very old codes for morality, and they should have downloaded newer versions many centuries ago.

Not all religions. Many Pagans are pretty open-minded, and many (myself included) believe in science as much as in the Gods. I'm sure there are homophobes of all religious paths, including atheism. It seems to come mostly from the "mainstream" religions though.

I'd argue that certain old values, such as honor, loyalty, and hospitality, are as relevant today as they were 1000 years ago. Too bad it is the old beliefs that are based on hate and fear rather than those based on justice and dignity that are so prevalent in modern culture. I don't think that the problem is religious morality in general, but rather the particular religious morality being forced upon everyone else by the extremists.

I think they are more anti-science then anti-gay.  They talk a good game of "I'm no homo" but they all get caught on their knees with a dick in their mouth sooner or later.  But they hate science, they don't apply it, they don't study it, and they really have no idea what it is.  Having sex with children (priests) or warping and perverting sex to children (nuns) is something they know.

But what about the Vatican's Pontifical Academy of Sciences?  Surely this means the Vatican now embraces science.  And this means they will soon be admitting how wrong they have been all these years and offer an apology to everyone who has suffered due to their actions, kinda like they did to Galileo.  Right?

I think they should let Lewis Black explain all this.  I think he could make sense out of it all.

I'd like to point out that a recent investigation by the Catholic Church found that 35-45% of ordained priests are homosexually oriented, though most are not active.  Now, my belief is that the church is scared to death that these priests will eventually be able to  find kind, sharing, loving relationships and be accepted in a world outside of the Church.  There goes 30-40% of their workforce that subsists on extremely low wages!  The Catholic position is based on pure economic motives.  Has it ever been otherwise?

Sounds like a Vatican press release.

Whatever the fate of the RCC, I don't think it would hurt them if they just kept the prejudice and bigotry out of their stand on what everyone else is doing.
