I'm the talk of the town

Well, it's kind of passed and nobody cares anymore, but for a while I was.  I live in a small town where most people know each other or are at least friends of friends, and gossip spreads quickly.  A month or two ago I went to a friend's birthday party, and as drinks were consumed and inhibitions melted away, people started asking questions.  Started with "are you a boy or a girl," and just progressed from there.  I was literally being surrounded by people asking me about surgeries, what my "real name" is, and WHY WHY WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS.  By the end of the night I was drunkenly cursing and yelling at people, telling them I didn't have to justify myself to them and they had no right to know what was in my pants.
For the next couple of weeks I couldn't go anywhere without running into either someone I had seen that night or someone who had heard about it.  The questions and rude remarks continued and I'm now spending a lot less time downtown.  I'm not being bothered as much anymore though, since I tend to respond rudely to rude questions.  I've ended up meeting some nice supportive people because of this, and gotten closer to my friends who actually respect me.  So I guess it's not as much of an ARGHHH anymore, just kind of annoying that I feel I have to limit myself to hanging out with LGBT people, since they're the only ones who don't make a big deal out of it.
