Are you an FTM who works at or has worked at Wal-Mart with an F on your ID, are out and use the men's room? If so I would like to know some things. I'd like to preface my questions by saying, yes I'm aware that there is supposedly a trans policy at Wal-Mart but no amounts of searching the wire or anywhere else for that matter have turned it up.

My questions are:

What state are you in?
Did you talk to your store manager beforehand or just go straight to using the men's room?

I transitioned on the job. One of the first things they said to me when I told them my intentions of transitioning was "as long as you have an F on your ID you have to use the women's" I am working with one of my assistant managers in order to get myself the right to use the men's, figure something else out (there is no family bathroom) She told me that she thinks the store manager is not going to say straight out no but that he would have to get back to me. She suggested that I research about other ftm's using the men's room at Wal-Mart while still having an F on their license.

If anyone could tell me if there is a policy regarding trans people and what it actually says I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

Any stories from MTF's who went to the women's while still having a M on their ID and working at walmart would be appreciated.

I work for walmart in missouri, I am a mtf however I haven't officially started my transition. I was also looking into this on the wire for my own sake with no results. The current idea we go with at our store if if you pass as a man go to the mens, if you dont i wouldnt try it. I also have noticed that women use the mens restroom all the time if the maintenance is cleaning the womens (they arent suppose to but no one says anything really). i wish i could be of more help. I can look into it somemore.

I pass 100% as male.  I have been told specifically not to use the men's without my store manager's permission.

It's wrong imo because:
-they shouldn't be able to dictate my gender expression (which I count using the men's room as a part of it)
-a person should be able to go to and use a bathroom they feel comfortable in
-I have been caught in the women's numerous time by women who gave me dirty looks/directed me outside and to the men's room.

You haven't changed your ID?  What are they supposed to do?  Do you have a letter from your therapist?

i work for sams club a division of walmart and i am mtf.... at my wifes walmart were she is a human resources there is a mt f it is against walmarts policy to discriminate against gender orientation or any other harrasment including the use of gender specific traits to discriminate your id dosnt have to specify that your male you id as male and therefore are entitled to use the correct restroom. this information falls under walmarts respect for the individual rule and is available for review in your cbl and on the wire while it dosnt say trans  specifically niether does it specify gay lesbian or any other marker specifically. if a manager (salaried) told you to not use the restroom he is in violation of walmarts policy and could be fired for it.. having said all that i would utilize the open door policy and inform the manager of your intention to use the correct restroom if they fire you they can be sued under discrimination laws through your state agency but it will not happen your manager will not allow this to go that far if he wants to keep his job.

I don't work at Wally but I have inquired at my work about the use of restrooms.  My company says until I have GRS regardless of what my ID says I must use the mens room.  I am in MN and I contacted the atty for Outfront Org and he said that the laws leave it up to the employer to determine which restroom I can use regardless of  my ID  having an "F".    I am sure this is not much help for you.  Good luck.
