That'd definitely be something to look into. I think it's possible, if you come back to Canada with a male gender marker I can't see why not. If you decide to come to the US here's the gender marker change form - http://transgenderlawcenter.org/pdf/dl329.pdf. Best of luck to you!

also - being on hormone therapy is enough to get your gender marker change in the US. or at least in California. I think it's all of the US. The transgenderlawcenter.org has tons more info in pdfs on their site. I suggest browsing that.

Best to ask a lawyer on this one. Or, you might be bold enough to contact your local court and just ask. I was surprised how helpful my local court here in CA was when I was getting my birth certificate changed legally in Utah.

In California, New Mexico, and Colorado, at the very least, you can get your name and gender marker changed on your driver's license/ID with a letter from your doctor and a form from the DMV. This doesn't change things with Social Security, so you can't change your passport or birth certificate, but it's pretty helpful nonetheless.

Most states, particularly western states, only require top surgery for ftms to change sex on all documents, including Social Security.

I don't know about most states.  But here in Washington State, it is hella EASY to change your gender.  All you need is a letter from a therapist.   
So come to Washington State if you want to change it easily, lol.

In the US the state department changed the law so you can now change your passport without any type of surgery. Some states require surgery (beyond top) and some don't even require you be on hormones. The state I was born in requires surgery to have my birth certificate changed but I can change my licence and all other documents to "M" just being on hormones in the state I live but only for 18 months (it will revert if you don't get SRS in that time)...everywhere is different.
Because Quebec is similar to France (legally) there is a possibility that you would still need medical documentation that you were "sterile" in order to change things there. France is pretty hardcore about that unfortunately. I would ask around before you try to change anything and possibly have issues going across borders/working etc. because of a discrepancy.

Believe it or not it's simple to change your gender marker in Massachusetts too. Just need a letter from the therapist who signs a form.
