The original thread was posted by Marcellahearts in the MtF transsexual board in February, and I thought, "Hey, this is a great idea, why not open it up to a general theme?"

So, I'm not trying to steal your idea, I guess I'm just expanding it to the whole community. This isn't just trans-related - if you could go back and tell yourself anything or give yourself any advice, what would it be?

I find myself thinking about this all the time, that's kind of why I really wanted to reply to the original thread but felt like I'd be invading that discussion :P

I probably wouldn't even tell myself I'd end up being trans, I figure I'd realize that anyway since I'd be me as a guy going back to talk to me as a girl.

What I would say is to quit being a fat lazy p.o.s and get into shape - not for others to approve of me, but to just be healthy and happy, and that way maybe I wouldn't have started SI and contemplating suicide. I'd also tell myself to try and get my mom to quit smoking ASAP, and possibly save her life. No idea when she started developing cancer but it was at least a few years before she was diagnosed...

Oooh and, I'd tell myself that if (when) I meet a guy names Andrew R, to kick him in the balls and not date him. ^.^

I wouldn't tell myself to change a single thing. My experiences make me who and what Iam, to change it would be tantamount to suicide.

I would go back to my high school self  (Spring of 1986) and tell that fool to not smoke and go ahead and buy the Microsoft stock instead of the car. I'm afraid anything else would cost me my two daughters. And if either of these two cost me my daughters then forgetaboutit .

I would tell myself to stay my ass in school doofus! You're going to need it in the long run!

I would tell myself a few things.

  • You are not a weirdo.  You are really a girl inside
  • Tell Mom and Dad.  They will help you to get true help
  • Remember three things: Google, Microsoft and Apple
  • Go to Veterinary School no matter what

Here are some of the things I would say to myself:

1. Don't be afraid to say what you need to say about how you feel inside to your parents
2. You have a lot more to offer than what other's say you do
3. Become you what you are inside, and don't be afraid of showing it.  When people come up to you and say "Hello maam" and such... It is a compliment.  Don't be afraid of showing it.
4. Never date "you know who"
5. There are a lot of better things on the way.
Fly this girl as high as you can
Into the wild blue
Set me free

I thought I'd go back and tell myself to take a degree in something that actually interested me, like history but then I realised that i would probably be poor and hungry, encloistered in some university somewhere, reading about Eighteenth Century hack culture and writing fiction.

Then I realised that having taken a degree in something I hates, I am here poor and hungry, lodged somewhere in a real and vibrant world, reading about Eighteenth Century hack culture and writing fiction.

So it's probably not worth me saying much to little me, 'cept to encourage myself to enjoy the ride, and to have confidence that things in life usually sort themselves out.

I would tell myself is to make sure Jessy always knows she's beautiful , and to fight that guy at the mall no matter what the consequence or outcome because it would be worth it at the end.  Also I would mention something about how one dance wasn't worth it. =/

Listen to my elders
Eat more fruits & veggies

Take better care of my knees

1.  Become celibate and never fall in love
2.  You're beautiful the way you are, and it doesn't matter if that pushes people away, so don't suppress it.

Ditto.  Not in c. 1959.  Even though my life has been hell, it would of been worse to have admitted it.  I may have been institutionalized back then or have committed suicide in the Navy if I try to man-up in my earlier years.  I have never try to man-up.  I am still alive and sane.

1.  Become celibate and never fall in love.
This from one who has been celebate all of his life:
  I hold it true, whate'er befall;
  I feel it, when I sorrow most;
'Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all.
  Tennyson.

This is true.  A feeling of vast emptiness here. I'm coming up on age 59.

When the doctors try to revive you at birth, don't let them... Don't let them make you experience this stupid hell called life on Earth
The main things to remember in life are Love, Kindness, Understanding and Respect - Always make forward progress

Superficial fanny kissing friends are a dime a dozen, a TRUE FRIEND however is PRICELESS

I would give myself this quote from Steve Jobs' 2005 Stanford commencement speech:

"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary."

If I had followed this, I'd be in a much different place right now.

This is a very difficult question for me to answer. I have a son and 2 stepdaughters I love dearly. So I would worry about changes that could possibly take them from my life or erase my son's existence. What I would want to say would be:
Work your butt off in school.
Take graphic design in college.
And to quit dressing as a girl and go be one!

I would tell myself to save money like crazy and not spend it on anything in order to correct your body in the future.

DON'T get involved with this certain guy no matter what.

Keep telling your parents that you are in the wrong body.

Stay away from the cheeseburger

Don't watch the Saw movies.

Stay away from the hot dog.

Take care of your teeth.

Don't put your PS2 on the shelf even if mom told you too otherwise the cat will knock it off and break it and you will have to pay $100 for a new one.

Stop eating so much.
