Hey guys, I haven't posted in a while but I've been with Susan's for 2 years (I had an old account) and I've finally got my T letters :)

So basically my question is: what is the process that you go through while at the endocrinologist?

I'm curious because we are making the appointment next week and I'm just so excited haha . . I want to know what to expect :p

In my case, my health records were reviewed with the doctor's assistant that day before seeing the endocrinologist herself. We went over my medical history, medications, etc. A brief, non-invasive examination also took place (blood pressure, abdominal palpation, heart & lungs). Then I met my endo and she very respectfully asked a few questions about where I was mind-wise with the whole thing. She wanted to know what name and pronouns I was going by and how I was being regarded by others. We reviewed my most recent blood work and she confirmed that everything looked good. Then she explained what options were available and which options are covered by insurance. We talked about the desired effects and also the potential side effects of T. She wrote me a prescription for a low dose of T which I could start ASAP and said we would gradually increase the dosage, meanwhile monitoring the progress via my GP until I would see her again in a few months. She was also happy to answer any questions I had. It all went very smoothly and there was no screwing around. I was treated with the utmost respect and kindness and didn't have to endure an interrogation or any such nonsense.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that she also asked what kind of support I have and if I was involved in any trans groups. Then she recommended some local support groups and information resources. She also highly recommended that I continue seeing my psychotherapist through the transition and to report any problems.

Ah I see, okay thank you for sharing your experience . . and I forgot to mention this in my post, but about how long did that process take? Like 2 days? (because you said you saw ur endo the day after I'm a bit confused hah)

Poor wording on my part. It all took place the same day. I meant I saw the assistant that same day, just before the endo came in and talked to me. The whole thing probably took about an hour, minus the time spent waiting.

I saw my endo directly - did not go through my doctor. He took my vitals (blood pressure, etc.) and asked me about my medical history. He asked me if I had changed my name and started using my chosen one immediately. He sent me for blood tests. 2-3 weeks later, he told me everything look fine and asked me if I wanted to start T. I said YES! :) and he wrote a prescription for T and needles. He said he recommends getting a hysto within the first 2-3 years. He also gave me the name of a nurse at his hospital (across the street) to show me how to self-inject. I got my T and saw her. She was very friendly, used my chosen name, etc. She called me a few weeks later to ask how I was doing with the T, any reactions, etc., and told me I could call her any time if I had problems. Next week, I am seeing the Dr again (after 3 months) to review my latest blood tests.
