I noticed a lot of transgirls uses anime avatars for their forum postings on many trans websites.

There's nothing wrong with it at all. Just a common singularity I have noticed with MTF and always wondered if there is something that ties it all together.

I have noticed it as well and assumed it might has to do with a perfect or idolized image of femininity one has.

I don't have an answer to why they do.
But has anyone noticed how androgynous anime characters always are? Mainly talking about the male ones, if you imagine them with longer hair they'd totally look like chicks.

yup..especially the final fantasy pics. My friends and I used to joke that we had no idea if it was male or female until we heard that person talk in the video game...then we're like "ohhhhhhhh"

Well, I'm currently using an anime avatar because, for reasons of personal safety, I can not afford to be accidentally identified in my current workplace...and you never know who might be watching when you are online. As soon as I can get out of there, I'd much rather put up a real photo of myself.  Gawds, I HATE the closet!
Call me Dana. Call me Cait. Call me Kat. Just don't call me late for dinner.

I'm posting even though I don't use anime avatars, unless it's an anime related forum  :police:.

I use my orca avatar because that's my internet persona. I generally write it _orca, in the hilarious off chance anyone here has ever bumped into me in the incredibly narrow subject forums I use it in. And I'm orca because ORCAS!!! I <3 them. :3 I'm not sure I'll ever use my real face as an avatar, well at least not without an orca plushie with me!!! OM NOM NOM!

If you are using your work computer to post here..... they won't need your picture to know who you are. Unfortunately, companies can and do spy on their employees. It is very simple to do. They can track everywhere you've been if they want to. So, quit using your computer at work! Wait until you get home.

Well in Japan (and actually also Korea, not so sure about China but to some extent too at least), androgynous-looking guys are regarded as cute... which may be why so many are androgynous in animes too!

This is straight from a fashion magazine I bought yesterday:

And I'd say around a quarter of the guys that appeared in the magazine looked something like that so it's fairly common. There are many other more typically masculine-looking guys in the magazine, but none of them look macho.

I use Harisu because she's pretty and when people on here imagine me I want them to picture someone like her, I haven't transitioned yet. The anime ones often look pretty exotic lol, for example Zoey's. Her's has a weird cat outfit thing all the time <.>

look at mine!  :D cute and deadly nothing can bring someone a simple like she can  :D

I needed an avatar, and I wouldn't want to use a pic of myself since I'm not out at all (or feminine looking...) so I decided a cartoon avatar would be best since I wouldn't want to use a picture of someone else without their permission. Then I figured that an anime avatar would look more mature, and personally I like the art style, so I ended up searching for anime pics of girls for something I liked and related to. Ended up with what you see.

Hope that helps  :)

Errrr ... okay.... I'll put it out there. It's it because slot of trans girls are geeks?
Maybe the media  (forums) we're using is attractive to computer geeks here?
Maybe the ability the hang around socially secluded geeks is appealing to MTF's because alot of geeks activities are generally genderless?

Or all of the above?

Or maybe the above post says more about myself? Linux any one?
