All the buildings in my apartment complex have been getting painted in the last few months, and they gave me a notice a month ago that door painting would begin on my building soon.  The note also said that 48 hour notices would be posted in advance of the work being done.

So 9am last Saturday (August 13) the contractors that the complex hired came knocking on my door without any advance notice.  Not being dressed or showered, I felt disinclined to answer it.  About an hour later, I got a call from the office that the contractors had been here to do work and asked if I wanted to reschedule.  I informed them that no notice had been posted and the person in the leasing office seemed surprised, but rescheduled for this past Saturday (the 20th).  On Thursday, the contractors put a notice on my door reminding me that they'd be there on Saturday, which was the 48-hour notification they SHOULD have posted the first time.  Sure enough, they didn't show up.

Yesterday afternoon as I was leaving, there was a knock on my door.  It was the contractors.  I ignored it until they went away, then went to the leasing office to tell them what had happened.  Turns out that the first Saturday they showed up, they were never supposed to be working on my building.  It wasn't scheduled with the leasing office at all.  But she was frustrated that they didn't show up when they said they would (I told her nothing of the fact that I'd ignored their knocking on my door 5 minutes earlier).  This morning, I got a call from the leasing office to schedule a fixed time for the contractors to be here.  I schedule for this coming Monday at 9am.

Not even 20 minutes after getting off the phone.  The contractors came knocking.  Now they're replacing my door jamb.  AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGH!!!!!!!!!

So I went and told the office about this and they just shook their heads and said they'd be having some pointed words with the contractors and will get back to me.  In the meantime, I'm stuck here on the computer when I WAS about to take a shower so I could go out looking for a job.  I'm sure as hell not taking a shower with my front door wide open and contractors in my apartment.

If they paint my door jamb as well, I'm going to be righteously pissed because that means I'm trapped here for the next three hours with my door open so the paint can dry.

EDIT: Ooooh... I hear the complex manager outside chewing them out.

Being in the trades myself and having worked with contractors like those before all I can say is those guys need to get their act together. It's really not that hard if they just try.

That sucks that's happening. I hope it's over soon for you.

Well, the first part is over anyway. ;D  They replaced the door jamb, but they need to come back to widen the deadbolt holes because they taper inward to the point that I can only bolt my door about 1/4".  The bolts are the only locks on the door so I'm afraid my door can be jiggled open.  I've let the office know about it and I know it'll get fixed.

But there's an upside to all of this.  The project manager for the contractors felt really bad and wants to get me a gift card to wherever I choose.  Awwwwww... :)  I always say it pays not to be nasty to people, and I maintained a pleasant attitude throughout this ordeal despite my venting here on the forum.
