I have lived in the same place for 14+ years.  I have neighbors that have lived here longer and for the past 2 months, are now my upstairs neighbors.  They know i am trans and they know i work nights.  They are very quiet until they know i am sleeping.  Then, the circus starts.  I have tried peacefully talking to them, asking if they could, at least, not do apartment renovations after 3pm.  They said they understood and then, things got worse.  I spoke to my landlady, but basically, there are no noise ordinances before 10 pm.  I am praying and working to not blow up and bow to their level.  And, after 2 months with little sleep, I am losing my patience.  If i did'nt believe in God, I would probably be in a world of trouble now.  Any suggestions?  How to handle this in the right way?

I would call the police. And everytime they are ridiculously loud, I would call the police again.

Oh wait....I didn't read the part about they were doing it at 3pm. Your landlord is right. Other than what the other posted suggested.

Unfortunately there isn't much you can do about rude neighbors.  You could always try a good pair of earplugs, that's what I did when I worked nights (back when I was young) and had kids at home.
Nameless here for evermore!;  Merely this, and nothing more;
Tis the wind and nothing more!;  Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore!!"

Hey Sarah.  I do wear earplugs and also keep 2 fans running as I sleep.  That's how noisy things have become.  And this is really wearing me down.  I have a hard time understanding that mentality.

I can understand both sides of the issue. You work the midnight shift and they don't. While you want to sleep and need to sleep, your neighbors are going through their normal routines.

Unfortunately, there is no way to solve this issue other than moving out or buying soundproof headphones. Because, at 3pm, many people just don't think to be quiet like it's 10pm because their neighbor works the midnight shift.

I wouldn't blame you for this nor could I ever blame your neighbors. 3pm is just not thought of as quiet time really. :(

I'd ask your other neighbors to step in with you and make a deal out of it. Do this twice before proceeding to the next step.

If that didn't work, want to know what I'd do? I'd get them back for it. I'd pop in some earplugs and then blast one (and ONLY one) song on replay until 10 PM every day until they stopped with their renovations or quieted the crap down. Don't change songs between days either. Same one every time. No respect for you, says them? No respect for them, says I. When your other neighbors complain, don't hide it, tell them exactly WHY you're doing what you're doing. That makes it their problem too, and I GUARANTEE they'll want to see an end of it.

No matter how many babies must be awakened, no matter how many afternoons must be ruined, you TRIED to do things diplomatically.
