Hey for all of you ladies and gents whom have already gotten your names legally changed, where was the best place to get your petition? Did you go through an attorney, or did you go solo? How much did you spend if you went to an attorney? And if you went solo, what website did you obtain the documents from?

I just heard that you can't buy petitions online and it actually hold up in court, though my probate court clerk said I could? Life is so damn confusing lol

To the best of my knowledge, you should be able to get them online. What state do you live in?

Tn. I thought I could. I was just hoping someone could tell me where they got theirs. I know of a few websites. Didn't know if it mattered. lol

I originally called the county seat's court administrator and asked how I get the paperwork. She directed me to a Minnesota courts website to download the information. It didn't cost anything but it's different for every state. In Wisconsin they charge for the paperwork. I went solo and had a really nice judge. It took a whole 4 minutes in court.

Hope that helps.

It depends on the state, but in Indiana I could print off the name change petition online and then send it to court. You could ask your local court how you should do it, or do a google search for your state's legal court website and see if it answers your question.

County courthouse. They would not accept the form I had downloaded.

Name change cost different depending on where you live. Was $89 then, but has since gone up.

I can get the forms online, or I just go into the courthouse and ask for them.  the forms were free for me.
