Hi,

Since my op i have been purchasing my lubricants, online they are around £32 for 12 x 82g tubes of aquagel, typically using 1 tube per week or so.

How do others acquire theirs?  Can it be prescribed? If so what quantity are you given? I cant help thinking you must be going to the chemist very frequently unless you can collect months at a time.

I have heard of girls buying large bottles on line.  Personally I was lucky and was able to pick up enough from my local gender centre for free, the only thing was each tube came with 6 condoms, so I know have enough of them to last a lifetime and some.

Re: Joyce

Dr. McGinn advises using Mineral (Baby) Oil.  Baby oil has a pleasant odor and seems to be absorbed into the skin.  It's not at all messy, it's inexpensive and available everywhere.

She says that the jelly-type lubricants leave too much behind and make a mess.

Thanks Joyce, I'll remember that for next year.

I am a McGinn girl and I use to use mineral oil , but I have found that using a water based lube works ( of course I consulted with her before I changed ) so I have been using PJUR AQUA it comes in a REALLLY big bottle and is very good , and when I run out or when on the run I use silk-e also water based vaginal moisturizer and personal lubricant .and for the organic ones I use REPLENS  ;D ;D ;D before I leave the house

Replens is awesome!  One application before leaving the house as Sui said, and you're pretty much good for the night.  >:-)

For dilating I use Ansell Lifestyles Liquid.

If I need a little extra, I carry this purse size one that's made from kiwi fruit called Sylk which feels just like natural moisture.

Being a McGinn girl too, in the beginning I must've gone through buckets of mineral oil lol (5 times a day for 8 weeks, eek  :o) The good thing about it is that the body absorbs it and it doesn't leave a gummy residue like some other lubricants do.

I get a 70oz of ID Glide from Amazon sellers. And when I need to, I get a 17oz too for travel.

I was unable to get it prescribed - or at least my GP was very reluctant as i'm a private patient outside the NHS regime and as I didn't want to make trouble for him (he's been good) I coughed up myself but if you're NHS i'm sure it would do no harm to ask your GP - he can only say no!

I just got 36 x 82g tubes of Aquagel delivered that I ordered online. I haven't had my surgery yet but was told i'd need 42g per day for ten weeks then could move onto Sylk lubricant - so i'm surprised you're still on the AG Buuuug because as you know i'm scheduled to see the same surgeon.

Anyway I got mine here: http://www.normedica.co.uk/products/consumables/lubricatingjelly/aquagel_lubricating_jelly_12_x_82g.aspx - it's a bit less.

Hi Cassie,

Yes, Normedica is where i buy mine from too (they are very quick, within 5 working days) but am wondering about alternatives and the ongoing need to lubricate really and the cost of it.

42g a day seems a tad OTT from recall, i think a tube lasted me 3 to 4 days, i dont think i was using a tube every two days but i do forget easiliy to be honest.  Better to have loads as it will all be used eventually anyway!

When i returned home from hospital i did try a number of alternatives to AquaGel simply because they were in the shop to pick up and immediate ( i should have thought in advance but always thought things might fall through or something).  I tried KY, Boots own, some other and a Durex one but these didnt seem to last as long, were gloopier as they 'set' or dried, felt rawer or less 'spongey' and all were harder to identify how much was left in the container.  Plus i felt was going back to the shops quite often so was uncomfortable about that!

I ended up searching online for somewhere to acquire AquaGel as it was the best of the ones i had tried (hence finding the site you mentioned) and had been ordering from there as broadly speaking its very cheap if you order enough.

I probably will order the AguaGel again for now and ease but have been looking at some of the others that have been mentioned on here as they are available from lovehoney.com too and who happen to make some interesting and cheap toys heh heh.  In the longterm i think i would prefer something less medical looking than AquaGel and more 'fun', putting another bit of distance between before and now.

I notice a lot of people are buying sterile lubes, but uh, isn't it not sterile the moment you open it?

I have been using WET Original for about a week now no issues, its not a jelly type but more thin so doesn't leave a mess like KY.  I get no real discharge after i do my cleanup douching.
