It's taken me a day or so to think about this but we're in a club in Branson MO. Where Miles Davis occasionally frequents while chasing the dragon. Janis and Jimi have been resurrected, if Jesus can do it then why can't they type of deal. Norah Jones has distorted her piano and lit it on fire with lighter fluid while playing the National Anthem or the Star Spangled Banner what ever it might be, I can't really remember. While Nora's tripping out on the flames Janis is dancing on top of the flaming piano while sucking on a bottle of Jack and Jimi is smashing the third leg off the piano with his guitar because he really does know that the 6 really is a 9. This is why you don't see to many woman in heavy music, it just makes good old fashion plain sense.

Hey, I'd pay to see that show.  You know though, Janis' biggest hit was Bobbie McGee which is really a rocked up C & W song.  Iget goose bumps every time here that Hammond organ!
If you want to raise the dead, have you heard Within Temptation's latest disc?  The Unforgiving was my favorite 2011 release and it's all about raising the dead.

I am a little ashamed to admit it but I have not heard the latest Within Temptation disc, I have slacked off for the last couple of years. Well not really slacked off just dumping all my cash into more pressing ventures, which I think most here are in the same boat. I miss hearing new stuff and I hate listening to music on my computer. And the the gods of hell fire surely know that I like raising the dead, but not in a sick way or anything :)

Miles, the very picture of a sophisticated urbanite, also hated playing for white people, I doubt that he'd set foot in Branson.
FIGHT APATHY!, or don't...

I budget $25 a month for music which doesn't sound like much but most record downloads on Amazon are $10 or less, 99¢ for singles.  The used bins often yield some gems, too.  I listen to music on my Android mostly these days.  Funny when one considers I was a sales manager in a hi-fi store back in the day. :)

I got out of popular music for a long time because rap/hip-hop does nothing for me.  All the rock radio stations here play classic rock, which I liked when it was new in the 60s & 70s but I like to stay current.  Having a teenage daughter helped.  She turned me on to Feist, Goldfarb and other stuff.

I'm having a second adolescence.  I started transitioning 6 years ago so I figure that makes me an 18 yo girl at this point.  I still need to do SRS but hopefully I'll have insurance that covers it soon.
I've been disabled the last 2 years but I'm ready to go back to work if I can find a job.  I'm having an orchiectomy next month; not for transition but for prostate problems.  Getting old really sucks.

Girls, there are lots of female fronted metal bands!  Just few in the US.  Evanescence is the only American band that comes to mind.  Europe is full of them in the goth metal and symphonic metal genres.   Bands like Nightwish, Within Temptation, Tarja Turunen and Epica sell out soccer stadiums from Moscow to Normandy and the songs are all in English.  Many of thes women have classically trained voices and can make a.song soar into the stratosphere.  This is a new song by an Italian guitarist and an American. Vocalist.  They are unsigned nut availlable on SoundCloud.

Hell ya!  I like Leaves' Eyes.  Every year since 2002 there has been the Female Voices in Metal Fest in Belgium. Past festivals have included bands liked EPICA, NIGHTWISH, AFTER FOREVER, TARJA, LEAVES' EYES and many others.  So far for October 2012 it has Arch Enemy and Delain in the line upUnfortunately European female fronted metal bands are practically unknown in the US.  Lacuna Coil played last weekend in San Jose as the first of 2 opening acts for Megadeath in Gigantour.  For 50 bucks I could see 20 or 30 minutes of LC and endure another 2 hours of male Headbangers. >:(  Lacuna Coil would be the headliner in any country besides the USA.  My goal is to move to Amsterdam 8)

Did I say Miles? I meant Kurt, it's so easy to confuse the two with that whole dragon thing going on and nowadays they really look the same. I think a little makeup would do wonders for both of them, especially in the eye area.

Sorry to read about your prostate issue but I think you'll be happy when those T producers are gone, and hopefully no cancer.

Thanks, Veritatumfurto!  I haven't been able to pick a favorite but a Shot in the Dark is a definite contender.  In addition to the cd I bought the comic books and and the phoenix Unforgiving t shirt.  I'm the world's oldest Goth chick!  Black jeans, band t shirts and boot are regular casual wear. I was too busy being a yuppie in the 80s so I'm making up for lost time  8)

Thank you, Gretchen.   I'm not too worried about prostate cancer. The enlarged prostate is no more than a year old and most likely medication induced. I'm a survivor, I beat liver cancer and survived liver transplant, what's a little prostate cancer?

The films are all on youtube.  If you go to WTs website, http://www.within-temptation.com, there are links for all of them as well as all 4 music videos.  They also have different mixes for some songs like a disco mix of Sineád.  There's a cool a Facebook site called Eve's Apple that promotes female fronted metal groups.  If you care to friend me, my name is Joanna Wagner (Claire is my middle name). B-)

Hey girls, if you want some cool tunes for free, check out Gothic Metal. - Metahit Sampler on Amazon MP3.  So far I've bought 1 disc of a band I'd never heard of before, an Italian outfit called Even Vast.  Qnother Italian group, En Declin caught my ear too :-)

Well, and what about Nightwish (Tarja), Doro, etc? In Russia we have some all-female bands, such as Volnaia Staia( heavy), blackthorn(gothic)

Why are there fewer women in heavy music...sexism, sexism, sexism. Why do people ask such silly questions? :P

But anyways, if you look in the depths of death and black metal you see some pretty good female musicians.

One of the best bass players in death metal, imo, is Jo Bench from Bolt Thrower. She's been with them since the beginning (80's) and is a monster on bass. And unlike all those "gothic symphonic melodic ladeeda" bands, she doesn't cake herself with makeup and try to be a diva.

There is also Rachel Heyzer who used to do vocs for Sinister, Infinited Hate and a few other death metal bands, who has really impressive grows. She unfortunately hasn't done much in the last few years, though.

My favourite is probably Masha Arhipova from Arkona (Russian folk metal band). Her growls are ->-bleeped-<-ing amazing and she is totally bad ass on stage.

and more Arkona :D :

Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult's vocalist is also female:
