in the future as a backup plan i would want to be an egg donor to have money for T and top surgery. but i think i would get rejected purely because i am trans. since this is my backup plan i would only do this if my medical transition was put on hold due to lack of parental support or lack of funds. do you think me being trans would count as being severally mentally ill? so do you think a healthy person with a healthy family would be excluded based on being trans?

Padma

I don't know what the criteria are for being an egg donor in your country - but I assume it's not one of the countries where being trans is considered to be a mental illness, so no to that part. Your best bet is to research the places that actually run egg donor services and find out what their criteria are.

you're aware of the fact that you'll be fed a very high dose of female hormones if you become an egg donor? including side effects such as breast growth, weight gain, etc.

I'm pretty sure they'd let you do it unless you're already on T, do you really have to disclose it to them? Just take the money. They'd probably just think you were a butch lesbian, and yes, gay people can be donors.

A lot of places make you commit to 2 years for egg donations (you have to undergo a lot of various testing.)

In addition to that commitment, they usually required you fall between the ages of 21-32, they want you to have at least 2 years of college (preferably a college degree), no mental illnesses, they'd like you to remain a certain BMI while you're a donor, and you have to remain alcohol, drug and nicotine free for that time period.  (Not to mention all the estrogen products they give you in preparation for harvesting of the eggs.)

You wouldn't be "disqualified" for being trans, but any anxiety or dysphoria associated with that would be a disqualifying factor.

btw im in the US and GID is a mental health condition.

Padma

It may come under the auspices of "mental health" for historical reasons (as it does in the UK) but it's not in itself considered a mental illness, as I understand it. I can imagine they'd be more likely to turn you down simply for being on medication, such as T.

being on T and becoming an egg donor doesn't work, obviously -- T shuts down egg production, and as i said, donors' hormone levels are manipulated so they produce more eggs.
QuoteEgg donation is the process by which a woman provides one or several (usually 10-15) eggs (ova, oocytes) for purposes of assisted reproduction or biomedical research.

I don't know how donors are chosen in the U.S. --- i am guessing they are scarce though because it puts immense stress on your body, so maybe being trans wouldn't be an obstacle.

I wouldn't want to take all the female hormones egg donors need to take and then have all of the side effects.
