I'm not sure how many of you know about him, but Adam Torres is a character on one of my favorite shows.
http://degrassi.wikia.com/wiki/Adam_TorresApparently he's the first openly trans character to have such a major role. For those of you that watch the show (Degrassi), do you like how he portrays transsexuals, and do you think it's accurate? For those that don't, do you like the idea of a trans character in a high school drama? Most of the episodes with him as the main subject revolve around the issues of transgender kids, and how he tries to be normal in a high school setting.
Personally, having this show in common among my friends made it a lot easier for them to understand me when I came out. Adam himself caused me to be very insightful about my own feelings, and was the first real example to me that one can live as the opposite of their birth sex and have a (somewhat) normal existence, even if they don't pass perfectly.
